Deciding color scheme for MBR - help me brainstorm!

Hi, Our MBR is average sized (17x12) in a classic colonial. Presently has mint green walls which will be changed. Blond hardwood floors. We've purchased furniture: king sleigh, and coordinating side table/chest in a dark wood (from Drexel).

Now my job is to make the room feel warm and cozy. Here's a very general idea of where I'm going--what do you think?

1) Pale blue bedding (possibly Eucalyptus shade RH carries) and matching panel drapery. Walls to be a warm cream or light beige (any suggestions on paint?). Rug to have cream and blues.

2) Pale but warm blue walls (any suggestions on paint?) with blue panel drapes. Bedding to be taupe satin. Rug would be creams and taupes.

I would find the patterned piece first, probably the rug or the bedding. Martha Stewart has some beautiful rugs through Safavieh that might appeal to you. I'm stuck with my old hand-me-down orientals in my bedroom, but boy if I weren't, I'd get one of these rugs in a heartbeat.

A vote for pale creamy warm walls -- and blue bedding. Color suggestion: Benjamin Moore "Golden Straw" (#2152-50)

It was one of the many colors suggested in the decor book I'm currently enjoying -- "House Beautiful: The House Book" Interior Designer William Eubanks says this color is like "candlelight"

Another suggestion from the book: "Benjamin Moore "Linen White" (207)

With that being said, I am going with a Bluestar and I thought about doing a colored knob, they have several reds. I couldn't decide. And then I thought I have absolutely no other red at all in the house so I just went with the black knobs. I like to make my accent colors come from things that are inexpensive, such as great dish towels, pillows, a vase, maybe a bowl to leave out. I've also been known to leave out produce that matches the color scheme. (eggplants, or limes, lemons, even carrots.) So, it's really up to you. I'm buying up orange accent color stuff for the new kitchen. Got some fab dishtowels at Target!

Lori, including the stone veneer? Yep. That's what the Romabio product is for. Using the same color, you could go several shades darker and use that color for the dormer, front door area, the peaks, and the garage and any secondary doors. These colors will be custom mixed colors. I absolutely never recommend custom mixed paint colors exterior unless you have no choice and they are on the lighter end of the value spectrum. You don't have a choice and luckily the vinyl you are matching is on the lighter end of the spectrum. I prefer to specify stock paint colors that have been properly measured for LRV and tested for light fastness, etc. You don't get that scientific backup with custom mixed colors.

I have an Etsy shop. Any purchases for my products go directly through Etsy. It can be done via credit card or PayPal, but it is always done through Etsy. Sometimes I’ve had to make adjustments to an already confirmed purchase for additional fabric on an order after the fact, and only then I ask the purchaser to pay via my business account with PayPal, other than through Etsy, because I don’t feel it’s fair to the customer to pay via Etsy and have the Etsy commission deducted. If this seller wants you to send payment to someone else’s PayPal account, it does appear that he is trying to avoid the Etsy commission.

Thank you. The blog makes some good points especially in regards to lighting. We would only go dark on the exterior. But since we are risk adverse we will probably go all white or white/gray. I just worry about the all white looking bland without shutters to dress it up some.

Janine I love pale blue with cream. It sounds like we are going for the same flavor in our MBRs. My bedding is pale blue/slate and the walls are creamy off-white. I still have to pick out a rug and some chairs for in front of the fireplace but I'll be lurking in this post to see how you are doing. We have dark wood furniture but didn't have end tables until I found two matching aluminum (they are shiny like chrome) pedestal tables at Marshall's. They make the room feel airy and light. I love the BM golden straw too. It's just the hint of the complimentary color you need for the blue.

If you want warmth, I'd go for the warm creamy color on the walls and save the blue for the bedding and accents. I'm not familiar with Golden Straw but you might also take a look at BM Everlasting, Natural Wicker, or Monroe Biaque.

Oops - "warm and cozy" is what you're going for. My suggestion was for "light and airy!" How about some peachy-colored accents or some browns with the blue for warmth. Maybe copper accents?
