I don't know the website but just wanted to offer my words of encouragement. I've never been a smoker but DH smoked and I know it was very tough for him to quit. He did quit though about 24 years ago and to this day still talks about how happy he is that he quit. Hang in there - you'll be so happy to put your smoking days behind you!

There are forums for people who are quitting, too. Google "quit smoking forums" and maybe you'll find one you like. They can be really helpful--if for nothing else, a pat on the back when you need it.

I smoked for 30 years and quit cold turkey.
I just had special x-rays done on my lugs after 30 years of not smoking and they are now clear like lungs who have never smoked.
-When I quit I removed all ashtrays and anything else that would remind me. All drapes and curtains came down to be cleaned. The main living area where I did the most smoking, was painted to get the smell out. I am so happy I have quit.

Jamie that's awesome!! You can do this, you really truly can. I smoked for 33 years and quit cold turkey. It was 2 years this past Dec. I can't tell you how good it feels. But I'll also be honest and say it was hands down the hardest thing I've ever done. But if I can anyone can. Best of luck, give me a yell anytime if you need to talk/vent. Best of luck!!

Congratulation from me also. I smoked for about 25 yrs and was up to a pack and a half per day when I quit 19 yrs ago. For me, the first 3 weeks were the hardest, but it's so worth it. Keep up the good work, you'll be so proud of yourself for being strong enough to do this. You CAN do it.

CONGRATULATIONS That is truly a great start on an awesome accomplishment. Hubs quit after smoking 65 years. He did use the patch and some meds to relieve some stress. But for him, sadly, the damage has been done to his lungs, he is feeling better and his lungs should not get any worse. Hey, kiddo, keep up the good work, we're all pulling for you.

Incentive is the best motivator and your health should be the biggest, best incentive EVER! So be proud of yourself and know that YOU CAN DO THIS, Pooks, and stay strong. Don't give up on this, it's your life we're talking about!

We were watching an old episode of Dog The Bounty Hunter and he was trying to quit (I think he succeeded-I don't think he ever smokes in the newer seasons). He said he smoked 4 packs a day!! His wife said it worked out to one every 6 minutes. CRAZY!

I don't know if it matters how MUCH you smoked, you're still addicted and any addiction is hard to break.

I smoked no more than four cigarettes a day before I quit. It was still hard. I was mazed to find myself thinking about re-lighting an 'end' someone had extinguished after a party. "Only four a day" was enough to be an *addict*. OMG!

That was almost 40 years ago. I should go look up how much money I've saved. I know I'd be in big trouble, health-wise, if I had not quit. I developed asthma several years afterwards.

I know it's hard to believe, but a couple months after quitting, I never gave a single thought to smoking. (I sure was never going to try any *other* drugs either!)

Congratulations!! You should be VERY proud. Keep us the GREAT work, I know you can do it. The quitnet site is a great resource to help and give incentive.

After 10 years of not smoking, DH started up again a year ago. He's since quit three times & started back up three times. It's easy to tell when he starts - he starts coughing again.

Keeping it frozen makes it take longer to eat therefore you eat less! But it is really satisfying!!!

If I could do it you can too! It will be 5 yrs in Oct. for me. I've about lost track. No more coughing after the first few days, and I can smell now without "being" smelled.

Congrats Jamie! I smoked for 20+ years. Quit for 7 (and gained 20 lbs). One day I thought "maybe I can just smoke when I drink a beer(not often). So I tried it.....ended up smoking for 5 years before I quit again 1 1/2 years ago.

Pretty soon the smell will disgust you. You'll be able to smell a smoker a mile away - and who wants to smell like that??? YUCK!! Just keep telling yourself stuff like that - it is damn hard, but so worth it.

You'll be so FREE! I post a lot on the Hawaii forum of Trip Advisor. Hawaii is a smoke-free STATE! You can't smoke indoors *anywhere*: hotels, condos, restaurants, the beach...NOwhere. I feel sad for the (mostly older) people who write in and ask where they can stay that they can smoke -- nowhere really NICE.

Very thankful that, with a family history of lung weakness, and having smoked for a short while at age 16 or so (when Dad, a pipe/cigar smoker, was away) I had the good sense to have quit, away back then.

And, having had a pulmonary embolism to cope with last fall ... and, after one day of some discomfort and pain, I'm now pretty well back to my former routine (while using rat poison to keep myself in shape) ...

... you can bet that this guy is now doubly thankful!!
