West Coast Florida Get-Together

I'm not sure if Nita has left for the brisk state of Florida yet (forcast to be 23 degrees here in Tampa tonight!), but I wanted to check in about the get-together.

Does anyone know if it's still on for this Saturday? Sharon? Dances?

YES, YES it's still on. I fly out at the crack of dawn on Friday. Dances and I will be in Tampa by 4:30. Going to spend the night at my cousins house about an hour away. We will be going to the FL State Fair Saturday morning and will go from there to the get together.

We are both looking forward to seeing you and Sharon. Hopefully any other KTer's in the Tampa area will show up. Don't need to know in advance. The get together will be held at CODY'S on Hillsboro Ave just east of the Flea Market & Racetrack Rd at 3:30 on Feb. 7th.

If anyone has any questions or need any further information please post it here and either Barbara or Sharon will help you out.

I've lived in New England my entire life, except for a brief nine months in Florida, which I hated. I'm one of those crazy people who really do love the snow. I have always found it magical. We have about 3 feet of snow out there right now and it's very pretty. We have had almost a half dozen storms already this year and my husband has a small electric shovel that our kids gave us a few years ago. It works great! It's only designed to handle snow that is about 6 inches high, so when we get more than that, it takes two people, one knocking the higher snow down to a 6 inch level, which works perfectly fine. The first snow of the season, my DH found it was very tiring but now after 5 opportunities to do it again, he's not finding it as tiring at all. So, it ends up being good exercise. It's also been very cold, zero or a little below. So I'm very happy that the garden is under a nice blanket of snow. It always does better when it is covered with snow through the coldest part of the winter. I find drought in the summer more difficult to deal with than the snow. It has a negative effect on my garden no matter how much I try to keep up with some watering. I do have some sunny drought tolerant plantings, but much of my yard is part to full shade and it's not easy to find drought tolerant for those conditions. Over all, I'm still finding gardening is still a pleasure and hasn't been impacted too much by the crazy weather. I use soaker hoses, and mulch well for dry periods. I try to almost always choose plants that are a zone hardier than my zone. There are positives about the weather. I'm finding that the Fall Gardening season is longer and I am able to get more done to get ready for the next growing season.

alisande - please come if you can. This is all so new to me. I have been addicted to the kitchen forum during our re-hab (a very long story) but during that time, I would lurk at KT and I am excited about meeting some KT folks. Perhaps, alisande, we could do a little research re the "oldies but goodies" boyfriends and arrange a coincidental meeting -;) I apologize for using GW names. I just have not yet got your realies into my 64 year old mind! And, I have heard it gets worse..........

When my daughter sold her house in Northport/Port Charlotte, 7% was the going rate 4 years ago, maybe 6% now?. I'd insist on a 50%/50% split of the total % charged.

Our bathroom renovations in Cathedral City are scheduled to begin August 22, and I don't know how long that will take, but I am hoping that they will be finished soon after Labor Day as well. I have to be back in L.A. September 7 and would only go back to Cathedral City in the middle of the week Sept 17-19, if all goes as planned.

The GOOD news is that our weather is going to warm up by Saturday. Hurray! I have been sleeping in my flannel pj's & socks for 3 weeks now!
Can't wait to see everyone...have a safe trip Nita & Dances!! See you Sat Barbara!

We're still on for the 14th here on the SE coast,right? And Nita, you do have my cell #, right? Just call me Wednesdayish to confirm and tell me time, etc, if you'd like, and I'll post here for Marion and anyone else that's interested in coming. Or just post here and tell me when to be there and I'll be there :-)

April, I sent you an email last night with the time. Sent a copy to Marion and she replied back that she will be there and gave me her cell number. I don't have your cell number.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Going to have a blast with Dances. She will be staying with me at my cousins house. I just know he will give us both a ride through the hill country in this.

EEP! I know I sent an email a few weeks ago with my info, and I never did get the one Nita said she sent last night - all manner of weirdness going on with emails here. Marion - if you see this can you please please let me know what time on the 14th?
