I might break down and buy an mp3 player.

but only one with an FM radio. I would use that

the most. And probably NOT the big brand name ipod.

geez... an mp3 player....

ohw, well, it will be nice when I'm outside or outside exercising.

My MP3 player was $20. I've had it for years. It isn't fancy but it holds plenty of music although I'm at the point now where I have to delete stuff every now and then if I want to add more. That's fine with me - I get sick of songs after a while. The radio isn't that great though but I've only tried to use it indoors at the gym. This is the second one like this I've had but the first one lasted me a couple of years too.

I have a subscription to rhapsody.com for music.

I used Roxio. I didn't want to pay their price for it but found it to be easy to use it did a great job. It would be a little harder, but the free program Audacity could be used to record music from any source that is played through your computer. After recording it with Audacity and exporting it as a .wav or MP3 file you could burn it to CD using Windows Media Player or other CD burning software. sanantoniorose, you could use audacity to record music from Utube as you play it, but I don't recommend doing so with copyrighted music.

Jane, I purchased a cable at Best Buy to connect my iPod to my stereo receiver. It sounds like you need the same thing. Go to the department that sells iPods and other MP3s and look for a rack of cable accessories. I think that mine is made by Belden. Or ask a salesperson for help. This cable will have a mini-plug on one end (plugs into the earphone jack on your MP3 player), and then splits into to two cables, each with an "RCA" plug on the ends. These match the inputs on your Sony system, make sure that you have two Audio In jacks, a Right and a Left. If you don't, you may need another type of cable, or an adaptor to go with the cable. It would be helpful if you could see your Sony unit in the same store that sells the cables, but not necessary. Radio Shack is probably another source for such cables. They tell you to turn down the volume on the player so that you won't blow out the speakers when you turn it on. Once you get it set up and working, you can see how to best set the volume. ï»¿The music you buy from Rhapsody does not disappear. You can burn it to CD, and copy and play it any where you want. Of course the music you rented on "Rhapsody To Go" will disappear when you quit the service. In fact you have to sign onto Rhapsody with you player connected to your computer at least once a month or the "music to go" will stop playing until you connect, and than it will play again. . This is no problem to me. Much of the music I listen to I would not want to own, but how do I know unless I got a chance to listen to it and live with for a while. If you are into any kind of music other than whatÂs played over, and over on the radio you might enjoy being able to carry around a virtual record super market such as Rhapsody to go. As a fan of Jazz I have purchased many albums over the years based solely on liner notes, and jacket art, and considering the number of used records and CDÂs for sale, IÂm guessing IÂm not the only one. I have no problem with dumping stuff I canÂt get into, and paying for what I like, fill my player up and start over again. I have purchased more music in the last few months than I have in the past year thanks to Rhapsody to go. Napster was the first to offer this kind of subscription service, and I think Yahoo does also. I just picked one, and it works for me.

I have used RCA, Sandisk, iRiver and SonyÂs over the last 5 years. I would recommend one of the iRiver MP3 players .... very simple drag and drop loading of songs ,,,,sound qualiy comparable to iPODÂs. Cheap on ebay. The 512mb memory will hold at least 90 songs and has FM. Comes with an armband usually. Uses one single AA battery ,,,,, simple power is the best power,,,, a spare AA is always somewhere to be found ,,,, I use the NiMH rechargables. Avoid SonyÂs as their computer interface "bites" ,,,, loading them is a pain. Avoid any device with an actual hard drive ,,,, they are more prone to shock,,, and they will fail eventually. Ya I know there cool ,,,,, but a friends with a dead, but pretty iPod has turned me off those,,,,, nice if "value for your money" is not your main concern. The Sandisk I had won used a nice large screen, was simple, sounded great and was OK to load ÂÂ but it wasnÂt so good as to go to the trouble of installing and learning it to replace any of the 3 iRivers we run in this family. One complaint with iRiver is they have lots of shared buttons ,,,,, so learning every feature is a bit cumbersome. I also use a Sony-Ericson phone/camera/mp3 player for music now ,,,,, combines devices for me ,,,,, great sound ,,,,, but the interface just "BITES" (I really mean it!). Good luck,,,,,,KC

If you have a Big Lots around you definitely go there and check out the ones they have. This weeks flier has a Poloroid 4gb mp3 player with camera for $40. I have seen several other very nice ones there for great prices. There is also a Sylvania 4GB with voice recorder for $19

I have one that I won in some radio contest that has the.FM radio. Never use it. If you want it I will be happy to send it to you. Just let me know.

The FM radios really don't work well, like the other said. I have had the cheaper MP3 players and they are nice.

I upgraded to an iPod - and WOW!~ I will never go back. The quality and ease of use is so much better.

A Nano does have a FM radio (with pause!) it has the touch screen. It's $150

The Shuffle is $49 - it doesn't have the radio or touch screen.

I have an iTouch now - I love that! Plays music, movies, games, has wi-fi, a camera and a video camera.

I would have a sorry commute if it were not for my ZEN, given to me by my son. My commute is anywhere from 45 mintues to an hour each way. The ZEN has a 30GB capacity and let me tell you, that's a lot of books. And we make a monthly trip that is about 7 hours round trip and DH and I listen to books on the trip. He isn't much of a reader, but he is totally hooked on audiobooks. In fact, our television watching has decreased dramatically since he discovered audiobooks. I have more than 50 books on it right now and still have lots of music, too.

If you're going to spend the money, I say go for one that has the largest screen that your money can buy. I tried a teensy one, but my old eyes could barely read it. And the color on this one (and many others) is much easier to read than some of the more inexpensive ones. This is one case of "you get what you pay for", IMHO.

Dh & I have several. We even have boom boxes they plug into.....and a cassette adapter so we can play them in the car over the speakers.

Go for it!!! :0) It's a good thing!

If you check around among your (probably younger) friends ...

... quite likely you could get one free (or nearly so), from someone who's upgraded to a fancier/newer system.

I have had several cheaper ones...that I have gone thru. I use them at the cafeteria when I am doing one of the jobs that dont require me to deal with the children..dish washing, dining room etc...DH got me an I pod for Christmas and I love it

Why not an iPod? If cost is the issue, they also sell refurbished ones at a lower cost -- frequently, because Apple has programs in which they buy back tech products because a customer is trading up to something else, these aren't even what we think as "refurbished" -- there's nothing wrong with them, Apple just checks them over.

And the latest generation of the Nano is just adorable!

I love my 80 gig Ipod classic, which is almost filled. I never, ever have to listen to the same thing if I don't want to. I've had it for 4 years, never had a problem.
