I got the one I have from someone on this forum quite a few years ago.....and I am ashamed to say I forget who gave it to me.
It's a Nor Pro....fastens to the counter with a suction cup. Doesn't stay too well, but I have become adept at holding it with one hand and cranking with the other.

I love it and these days it's getting a real work out!

Don't know what brand... red metal, suction cup thing to attach to counter. SIL used to do Pampered Chef demos and when she stopped, she had TONS of stuff that she "earned" or was part of her "kit". She had 2 peeler/slicer/corer thingies. I think it came with spare peeler blade?? That might be something you'd wanna get at the beginning?? She used it a LOT when niece was small to do apples for snacks.

I don't use mine a lot but have found it ain't just for apples. Was getting ready to ream a messa lemons for REAL lemonade and thought... all that great zest going to waste cuz I don't have a use for it right now. SOOOO, swung the part that cores outta the way, stuck lemon on, and ended up with a big pile of perfect lemon zest. I put it on a paper plate and let it dry till it was crispy and put thru spice grinder (coffee grinder NOT used for coffee) and made real lemon pepper that wasn't mostly salt. Have done the same thing to peel potatoes, but they have to be fairly symmetrical or you end up with a lot of touch-up work to do.

For me it's the OXO. I love it. It peels apples, butternut squash, etc. Inexpensive. You can find it at T.J. Maxx, Ross, Marshals for $5.99. I've tried many and I have this the best.

Yeah....I have an OXO peeler too......but that's just a peeler.....this gadget is also a corer and slicer.
A few turns of the handle and you have peeled and sliced and cored apples...all ready for pie or cobbler or crisp....or apple cake with cake gravy....or just to put on a plate next to your sandwich.

I have a White Mountain one and a real antique one. Both work good so long as your apples are fairly symmetrical, unbruised and firm fleshed. (I bought 3 bushels of Wolf River apples year before last only to learn that Wolfs were too soft to work on the peelers. ugh.)

I had a Pampered Chef one but it didn't work very good for me; the White Mountain one worked better. But other people like the PC one; how good they work probably depends a lot on the apples you're working with.

Like Lindac mentioned, stay away from the suction cup base in favor of one you can clamp down and make sure that the clamp base will open wide enough to clamp to your counter. Otherwise, you'll have to improvise a way to clamp it down. Probably not a good idea to try clamping to a stone counter. The operation can get pretty messy, esp. if you're doing a lot of apples so you may end up moving peeling outside or to a garage.

(If you're processing apples to freeze, a simple dunk in salt water (don't need much salt) prevents the apples from turning dark.)

Thank you all very much. Most helpful. I will look for the one Linda has with the clamp if available. I am doing this primarily to dry apples for baking and snacking.

I have something called a Peel Away by Back to Basics, I got it about 10 years ago at my local grocery store for $12 or so.

It's red metal and has a suction cup base that actually works pretty darned well. It's been worth its weight in apples here, I've done bushels for dried apples, for apple butter and for apple maple jam and it's still going strong.

As has been mentioned, if the apples are oddly shaped or soft, it doesn't work well and I find a knife much easier for potatoes. Zesting a lemon, though, that sounds like a good idea.

The Peel Away is exactly what PC sells/sold. That's what I have.

What? A Pampered Chef item that actually works? Now I believe in miracles, everything I've gotten from them has been cheap (although over-priced) and has broken after a couple of uses. I get it replaced, the replacement breaks and eventually I give up.

That apple peeler, though, it just keeps peeling away. Get it? Peel away.....oh, never mind. LOL

Well then, a battle between Peel Away and Nor Pro then:) I'll definitely check out the latter as well. Very glad I asked. Also I was able to find a new Nor Pro on Ebay with the clamp so that option does exist but its somewhat harder to find.

I have one from BB&B (see link below) that looks like Linda's, but it doesn't have a name on it. It makes very quick work out of peeling, coring, and slicing apples. All three functions operate separate or together, depending on the result you want. It will core, peel, and slice and apple in about 10 seconds, and so it is a great time-saver. I'm not that big on apples, but since we have an apple tree (Fuji) that came with the house, I use it a lot at this time of year.

The suction clamp works perfectly well on my granite countertop.

I have a Pampered Chef apple peeler/corer/slicer that screws onto my counter. I bought it about 30 years ago and it's been working fine since then. I prefer the firmer apple varieties like Cortlands or Ida Reds and only ever had a problem when I used a creamier textured variety.

To minimize the mess when I'm doing a lot of them, I mold one edge of a disposable aluminum 8" cake pan around the front of the peeler and then the peels and juice drip into the pan.

A lot of very good information here and I thank you all for taking the time. I ended up with the NorPro with the clamp and I'm excited to use it. In other news today was the first time using my Nesco Food Dehydrator and I thought it was cool. I dried six bananas and although they are not like what you buy at the grocery they are very good.
