SW Duration

Just curious...what is your opinionn of SW duration paint. We used to get their Everclean but they discontinued it for Duration. We have used the Duration in our kitchen/foyer/basement and bath. We like it for the most part. We used the Matte finish but it still has a bit of a shine. Generally we use a flat latex on our walls. But now we are doing our bedroom and we wondering if the Matte finish would be too shiny or should we stay with flat latex. Those of you who use SW..do you buy their Pro classic for your walls? My husband is a SW fan so we always go there even if we chose a color somewhere else.

Also..can anyone tell me if LA Gold 3 and 4 show up more tan than gold? I am considering them for this bedroom but I want a more gold tone than brown.

Oh, and also...would Gold 2 be light enough to use on the ceiling? We are used to white ceilings but decided to try a bit of color this time. We would probably pair it with Gold 3.

Or should we go with a 25% tint of the Gold 3 for the ceiling.

I prefer the pro classic to the duration. Both are nice paint, but for some odd reason I can't explain I just prefer the pro classic to the basic stuff. I started using it for trim and it does beat the heck out of duration for that, and I guess I just never went back.

I don't have a fan deck with me right now so I can't answer the color question about gold 2 but I will say that being a HUGE gold lover that I like a gold wall with a slightly tan ceiling. I actually used ralph lauren's parchment and writers parchment (lighter) with my gold's in our town house and both look fabulous. You might consider seeing how that looks and then have SW do a paint match if you like the combo.

Yes, yes and yes. I am using the Duration. Changing from a Med grey to a Med tan on my house. The Duration (I am also using the satin) is a real think paint (hardly drips at all) and covered in one coat for the color change. For some trim areas that needed a bit of scraping I bought some primer so I got the next step down from the Duration on the trim paint. It is a bit runnier and wish I had just gotten the Duration for the trim also. I probably would have needed 2 coats to cover the old color so the extra cost of the Duration was well worth it.

Holly-Kay, thank you!! Marti8a, seems that the matte has a sheen between flat and eggshell. Some say the satin has just too much sheen. I am guessing this is how it is so durable? Duration, in general, seems (from what I've read in several reviews) that even the matte holds up to abuse, it looks good, but feels gritty to the touch. We got the matte. Painters scheduled for Monday so I will report back.

Hmmm, okay. Thanks for responding! Most of the houses in our neighborhood have flat solid or semi solid stain or pretty flat paint so to keep in with the look I may have to go with the flat Duration then if I don't use Aura. Sounds like the satin might be too shiny.

I've used lots of LA Gold 3 in my first floor and it's definitely a true gold and not at all a tan.

I haven't used Gold 2 or 4, so I can't help you with those.

Thanks igloochick and clueless for your help. Since I posted the question on the gold paint I changed my selection of comforters. I am having a horrible time deciding on this bedding. The latest one is still gold and taupe but not as dark gold as the previous one. I am now trying to make a decision in the taupe family...more neutal than gold. But I will keep your posting in mind for the next project.

igloochic, who sells RL paint. I couldn't find it in Lowes or HD. Thay may still work for the project if the comforter works. have you worked with the taupe family? What color ceiling would work with that?
