Plantation Shutters or traditional shutters?
Comments (17)Yes, Penney's installed them and it's included in the price. There was only a choice of real wood or composite. Then you could pick your color (they had many colors including stained) You also pick your louver size. They are made my Norman Shutters. Scroll through their website and there are some beautiful pictures. I wonder if different Penney's use different brands???? I only did the front of my house but that included french doors and that sometimes raises the price a bit. So with my 40% off sale, my total for 14 windows and 2 french doors was $6100 and then I got another 10% off for doing the whole house with them. (wood blinds on the back) So that brought it down to $5490 The French doors have a cutout for the lever that I think looks pretty cool. Here is a link that might be useful: Norman Shutters...See MorePlantation Shutters - wood, faux or vinyl in the sun?
Comments (4)Our windows are almost all tinted in addition to the wood plantation shutters. But even if they werent tinted we still would have chosen wood. All of our plantation shutters in the house are wood except the pool bath door. There is something about the wood that has a richer look to it. A neighbor used the polywood which is probably what you are referring to as faux wood. You notice the difference up close, I cant tell from the street. Close up on her shutters I can immediately tell its not wood. I dont like the vinyl shutter on our pool bath door, it looks cheap up close. It also doesnt move as nicely as the wood. I am very glad I didnt use that on any other window. Several friends choose the vinyl for their garage when the garage windows faced the front of the house and they want a uniform look. Maybe someone with the faux wood will comment. Most friends I know with shutters all told me ahead of time to only get wood, I went with their recommendation and I am very happy...no regrets. I think the tinting will help prevent my shutters from warping or whatever else the Florida sun could do to the finish. Ours are only 18 to 6 months old so I cant tell you much about those "opinions". Maybe faux is the best of both worlds, but I think the wood is manufactured and protected better these days than it was 15 years ago. Todays shutters are usually guaranteed for several years. I know ours are....See MoreGraber Plantation Shutter Blinds
Comments (0)Does anyone have Graber Shutter blinds in their home? If so, do you like them? A nice change from the standard wood shutter. While I like the look and they were not inexpensive, the tilt mechanism is extremely tight/taut when opening and closing. The distributor claims this is normal operation. Interested in hearing if your Graber shutter blinds operate the same way. Thanks....See MoreAnyone order wooden shutters & wooden blinds on line??
Comments (9)I've ordered from Smith & Noble on many occasions and have always been pleased with their service and products to include shutters and wood blinds. Just today I ordered from Blindsgalore.com for the first time because I want shutters for my guest bedroom NOW and they have the best deal going --- through tomorrow, sale 5% off + 20% discount. Time will tell if I can recommend them though. I don't think their site is as user friendly as S&N but it was easy to use nonetheless. My advise: 1. Read everything about how to measure and options. Then measure at least three (3) times before ordering because there are no refunds. 2. Never pay full price/shipping. There are always discounts to be had! Best of luck, Laura...See Morejoyce_6333
