When I was single and living in Ottawa, I once dressed up as an old man. I put flour in my hair (for gray hair), a cap (hat), wore my roommate's hard-toe work boots, sunglasses, gloves, stuffed my shirt to make my stomach look bigger, and wore a red & black checkered jacket, and jeans. I bought some Colt cigars to smoke instead of cigarettes. I sat down at the bar near some friends and they didn't know who I was all night. When I first started smoking those cigars, it was tough. But after a few rum and cokes, it was no problem!! I kinda liked it by then! lol I danced all night with those work boots. Women kept coming up to me to ask me to dance, so I figured why not? The next day my legs were so sore, it hurt to lift them! I even went into the men's washroom cuz several people were trying to figure out who I was and if I was a real man. LOL It was a hoot!

My tiny hometown always had a Halloween parade. The HS band always marched, in costume, and I played clarinet. One year, I dressed up as the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Wore baggy pants, one of my dad's overcoats, hat, scarf, etc. and wadded up a blanket over my back and shoulder. I came close to winning a prize - but not close enough.

In college, my roomates and I hosted a Halloween party and I was a rooster. Wore yellow/orange tights, yellow/orange platform shoes (don't know why I ever bought those, but they did come in handy), a brown trash bag stuffed with newspaper, with yellow crepe paper "feathers" stapled to it. Nylon stocking over my head with a red comb attached. Especially funny after the party (and a few beers), walking around campus.

The only costume I can recall was as a freshman at WAZZU..I was Minnie Pearl..

Most of my costumes have been food related because I volunteered up at my kids elementary school to hand out lunch. One year a group of us went as bagels, butter and cream cheese. I was the stick of butter! That's because Halloween fell out on the day we were serving bagels. The next year we went dressed as pizza slices because it was on Pizza day. and another year we went as M&M's. and we had baseball hats made up that said "I'm Plain" but mine said "I'm Nuts!" and one year I went dressed as Alfalfa from the Little Rascals! That was a lot of fun because the movie had come out so all the kids knew who I was!

One kid in my brother's class dressed up as a table and his head was the cake!

One Halloween I was working in a restaurant and we had 3 customers come in dressed as a Big Mac, Large Fries and a Chocolate Milk Shake.

Once I was an elephant, with a trunk and the whole shebang. It was adorable, and nobody at the party knew my hubby and I (he went as a grizzly, ugly old man with one of those very realistic ugly full rubber masks). But my favorite was a box of groceries. We put a false bottom in the box, which was recessed in so there the actual part of the box that held groceries was only about 4" deep. Then there were two armholes and holes to peek out. For a month before Halloween, we would open all cans on the bottom so the tops kept their lids, then we would put the empty can in the box. The same with dry food. Boxes were opend on the bottom so the top remained unopened and when put in the box, looked brand new. It was pretty cool.
I always wanted to go as a naked man. I wanted to stuff a nylon body with polyfil with exaggerated male parts, then make my hubby an exaggerated woman costume. Never did get up the nerve to do it though.

Remember the show "Two Fat Ladies?" The DH and I were invited to a Halloween party the year that she died. I was going to go as the Dead Fat Lady. I had a chef's coat and was going to stick gummy worms through the button holes. I had a face peel that I was going to put on and partially peel it away from my face to look like dead skin, and of course I was going to speak with a British accent.

The DH was going to go as static cling. I was going to pin panyhose, socks etc. all over his clothes and have him carry some Cling Free sheets. I forgot why, but DH and I didn't wind up going.

Love some of these...Michelle I think the Big Mac, Fries & Shake is a scream! Reminds me of going to Palladium one Halloween and there were about five people dressed as mixed drinks running around. The constumes were fantastic- the "martini" was in tights, high heels & leotard for the stem with the V of the glass from the waist up, tom collins in a collins glass, every one of them complete with swizzle sticks & appropriate garnish. Fabulous.

My best Halloween costume never came to fruition. A few years ago a motorcycle club used to sponsor the Salem Witch Ride which would take place the weekend before Halloween- through Salem, MA. I have a red Triumph and I made horns & a tail for it. Since I'd be riding it bundled inside my heated gear and a full face helmet I had planned to go as medusa and had made a bunch of outrageous ribbon snakes to braid through my hair complete with eyes . The "snakes" would have been trailing behind me, the tail trailing behind the bike...it would have been beautiful. I'm still hoping that we can swing it one year.

several years back friends had a halloween party every year that was top of the line. everyone came dressed to the hilt and the prizes were just excellent - not to mention the food and atmosphere. they went all out - moved furniture out of the house, turned it into a total thrill house. i miss those parties, but most of all i miss my friend. every year everybody tried to top their costume from the year before. a few times i won a certain category, but my best costume was a decomposing bride, which one me three prizes that year.

i got an old wedding dress (it so ugly to begin with) from a thrift store and kind of made it worse with more ri[ps and tears and what not, stained it a little to make it faded and older looking. my make-up was amazing - total death face - my arms and hands all veiny and just gross. my hair was a tangled mess and teased in places with a few fake bugs thrown in and the veil, which was really just an odd piece of tulle with one of those kiddie tiaras, was in sad shape. i wore these funky shoes which were at one time white, but i muddied them, and then tied to the back of one of them, i dragged another one which made it look like my foot was dragging, and limped around throughtout the night. i carried a bride's purse stuffed with old cards - the envelopes that were yellowed and (fake) torn money. even my wrist corsage was pathetic.

Mine didn't take much work, but last year I borrowed a patient gown (the kind that open in the bck) and wore it with a big fake rear end sticking out. Of course I had tights on underneath. I didn't want my real big fat rear end to show!

LOL, Sherry! That reminds me of another. This is funny, too.

One year I dressed up as a flasher. Got an old overcoat and a hat, wore a tan leotard, took embroidery floss and sewed "chest hair" and...well..."other hair", tied two round red balloons together with a long pink ballon and attached them to their..um...place.

Went to this Halloween party, had a blast until this cute guy came in and had the same costume as me!!!! Whodathunk???

(PS...I have now been married to the "cute guy" for 17 years! LOL)

Having trouble deciding what to be this year 'cause of my giant pregnant belly. Don't want to go with the two obvious choices of bride and nun--too common, a little too rude. Maybe "the bride" from Kill Bill? (Maybe I won't even feel like going out anyway!)

Maybe you'd better just stay home & eat candy (did I every mention that I found out I had gestation diabetes right before Halloween & I wasn't due until late January? So Halloween, T'giving, Christmas & New Years were not only booze free but carb light? The cruelest thing you can do to a pregant woman is put her on the gestational diabetes diet! Anyway, I digress...)

Maryanne, your costume sounds delightfully ghoulish and reminded me (I can't believe I forgot this) of the time when a bunch of us dressed up like the Addams Family. Oh it was a riot! This was before the days of Hot Topic & ready made goth so I sewed my own Morticia gown. Our Uncle Fester was over 6ft tall and HUGE, positively menacing in his cassock & bald "wig", one friend was Cousin Ophelia complete with white wig & daisies in her hair...we even had Thing in his box!

Oh yeah, Nina, that's PERFECT! Hello, Amanda, and happy halloween.

Let's see, one year I was a playboy bunny, one year I was a belly dancer. Last year I threatened to put on Ashley's French Maid costume, but I was embarrassed to wear it publicly. (grin) My favorite was the year I dressed as a farmer and the two girls were ears of corn. The year I was pregnant with Ashley I was a pet dragon to Amanda's damsel in distress. I've been a Dead Cheerleader (giant felt letters spelling out D-E-A-D on the sweater) and a "mummy". Get it? (grin)

Now my girls are grown, I don't dress up in costumes any more, I help the Grandkids dress up.

Oh, but I saw a great video of Elery dressed as a sheik at a party he had several years ago. LOL
