Anyone else getting Threat Blocked message?

Late last night and all day today, whenever I go to the homepage to log in an AVG window pops up with the message "Threat Blocked" Virus detected. So I haven't logged in all day until now when I took the chance. I emailed GW twice but haven't received a reply. Then I emailed a fellow GW member who replied she's having no problem. BUT - my aunt told me she went to the Garden Web site and got the same message from AVG and it sent the virus to AVG's vault. She's never visited Garden Web before but did it just to see if she got the same message.

Maybe AVG is just informing me that it blocked the virus and it's ok to go ahead and open the site? Well, I did. Will see what happens next. I haven't been on GW all day and I need my fix!

I am getting the same thing. AVG removes it to the vault. Hope that is good enough. Once it is removed to the vault it seems okay. But if I close out and return later it does it again.

That AVG message has popped up once for me as well. Didn't have time to investigate it. I'm on a Mac most of the work day and nothing has popped up while browsing at work.

To those using Firefox, go to Tools (located on the Firefox toolbar) then click on Options. Open the Content Tab; the first box will say "Block pop-up windows". Make sure the box is checked. I use Firefox with Adblock Plus (and have the "block" box checked!); I never see ads. I understand the need for advertising but I only have basic DSL (all I can get in my area; until 3 months ago I was on dial-up) and only have so much time on the computer; I refuse to spend my limited online time waiting for ads to load. Hope this helps.

yes exactly, right on target AnneCecilia. my email blocks spam well, and i never got any messages at old garden web that made me uncomfortable or anything bad. this is the one thing i dislike most about the change. that and the WHITE!!!! beyond whatever personal preference i might have, it does not facilitate the types of interactions we have...where it is usual to just interact with a stranger briefly, quickly trade some seeds, and then maybe never talk with them again. sure we had friends and some people we repeat traded with, but some good exchanges happened between strangers, without any sense of obligating oneself to more interaction than that. maybe that sounds cold or something, but in the context it worked out well...and i think that even once this settles down...there will be a lot less trading unless that is made possible by being able to email people "cold"...and have a place for that kind of interaction. whim all means we need to be able to email people without following them, otherwise there will be a whole lot less trading.

Lindsay, I had trouble logging in at the beginning of the changeover as well. I contacted them via "contact us" and they immediately wrote to me. We tried a few things, and then they gave me a new username, webuser and a number just like what you have. My posts would show up as that until I changed my First Name. I tried to change my username to Jasdip and it wouldn't take it, so I just put a 1 at the end of it. At least I can remember that if I need to, and I seldom have to use my username. I keep logged in all the time.

I did send a message to Houzz early this morning when it first showed up. Odd that it was doing it on and off. Still haven't heard back from them but maybe they are working on the issue.

I got it all day yesterday and again today,but i was able to get thru today.I just hit the red X and when it went away i got in.

I hate stuff like that because i'm not that computor savvy.I just know not to open anything i'm not sure of.

Well, glad it isn't just me. I was beginning to wonder when I saw all the Wed.Feb 22nd. posts. The alert just popped up again when I closed out of the Cottage Garden forum and went to the main forum page to click on here.

Please pay no attention to this message. AVG has been notified and corrected it for more information see the posts about it on computer help forum. It is a false positive ignore it.

I just took a look at my AVG vault and history and there is no evidence at all that there was ever a problem.

I don't think this is legitimate. I would not click anything there except the X, which I did last night more than once. I then ran my AVG and it detected one threat.

Well...it's not just AVG who's being cautious...although I didn't access/read your link Raven. I had a "blocked" notice here at the table from Malwarebytes today. I should note that I have the Pro [paid] version of Malwarebytes. And...it's not the first time I've had such an experience here lately. sigh

AVG explained why it was picked up as a false positive some of the script was done in a way that appeared suspicious, which is why malwarebytes probably hit on it too.
The problem is in one of the ads.

Thanks, Raven. That's what I figured. I regularly visit a couple of news sites that set Malwarebytes off, too, so I just shove my security setting up to high for those sites and meander on.

Thanks to those who checked it out with AVG. That was going to be my next step. I got the message again just now when I logged in but I guess I'll ignore it. Wish they'd get it fixed.

Avg did put out an update but they have said if you are still seeing the warning to manually hit the update option for you to get the latest version, even if yours auto updates daily.
