Comments (11)Thank you all for your input! I was able to take some better pictures today. I just don't get how anyone could think this is acceptable let alone many different people that have worked on it from the painters to the trimmers. I guess it's not their problem so they just do what they are supposed to and move on. What happened to taking pride in your work?...See MoreNew drywall and priming question
Comments (10)you can prime and paint anytime. there really is no urgency to do it right away. I hope you aren't using expensive Kilz on top of your drywall. It's not needed. plus something is niggling at my brain and I'm having a hard time recalling but I think if you prime with oil based primer, your water-based paint may have a hard time sticking. your paint might end up peeling down the line. I grew up in a family of professional painters. they make actual drywall primer. it's pretty much elmers glue lol You can use cheap watered down paint to prime also. OR you can even skip the priming. Priming will allow you to use less expensive paint....See MoreDrywall Repair Questions
Comments (6)Thank HandyMac. Instead of the taped screwed drywall panel, what if I installed an access like this one that goes to my attic? I prefer the idea of an access panel since the area will have to be opened at least twice a year. This is in the ceiling. You push it up to remove it, IIRC. I could probably make a similar drywall panel that could be pulled out to access the sprinkler valve and drip opening. I could reinforce the edges with wood on the back (inside), and use a low profile edge like lattice (the composite version might be stronger than 1/4” thick wood lattice). I could hang the shutter over it. The opening would need to be minimum 8”x30”. Should I make the removable panel wider to increase stability? I could go as wide as 12-13”, I think. I assume the reason you want drywall covering the access is for code since it’s an exterior wall. When the frozen pipe happened, I was asked if I wanted to keep the area open to allow interior room heat to get to the pipe. This was before I had the sprinkler system installed which allows the bottom of the pipe to be emptied during winter. Also we have not had weeks of subzero temperatures (that cause the pipe to freeze) in years (at least since I have had the sprinklers installed). I think plumbers like access panels - they always seem to suggest them. Is that the reason you suggested a drywall cover, or is it something else?...See Morehousekeeping
