Interesting observation of 'fresh-picked GA peaches'
Comments (17)I have bought wonderful stonefruit in green markets in CA- picked firm ripe where they soften the next day out of refrigeration. Many new varities don't even soften on the tree (Blushing Star and White Lady for example) and need to be picked to ripen properly- well, white lady will soften eventually on tree. Even in the East, high quality stonefruit is often available in supermarkets- it's just that you never know what you're getting. I once bought some Elberta peaches from a grocery store in Georgia that were absolutely "perfect". Probably from a local grower. Pluots often get good sugar up before they are picked and shipped and many stores offer flown in stone fruit for a premium price. Fruitnut, you certainly enjoy your exclusive club of one as far as fruit enjoyment goes. It is true that once you've enjoyed "the best" nothing else can quite suffice. I am only kidding- most of us who grow our own fruit get some enjoymemt out of the exclusivity of the pleasure. But until one tastes your perfect nectarines one can probably expereince the same level of joy by eating lesser fruit from their own trees. I used to think my Madison peach produced the best fruit in the world until some other varieties started showing me higher quality. Now I'm spoiled for that quality. Almost everyone who tastes my fruit thinks it's the best they've tasted but I know it could be slightly better if it was grown under a hotter sun and got full sun from dawn to dusk. But the best of my fruit is still absolutely satisfying for me....See More27 Best Easter Egg Coloring Tips, Dye & Design
Comments (5)Egg colouring is big business in my family LOL. We get out all the big guns. Several dye kits, painting kits, crayons (including clear wax 'magic' crayons), coloured pencils, and so on. Then, on Easter, we do something we call "Egg fights". You hold one of your eggs with an end pointing up. Your opponent holds their egg with an end pointing down, and taps the end of your egg. One invariably cracks, sometimes both. Then it is your turn to tap THEIR egg. Eggs with an end unbroken are still 'alive' to fight another person. While there is some fame in having the winning egg, you obviously cannot eat your egg until it is broken, so there is something to be said about losing as well LOL. This is all done with lots of trash talking, exclamations of surprise and calling of silly names when somebody cracks your egg, accusations of cheating or "coming in from the side", and so on. Some years there are tricks involved (using an unboiled egg which may have a stronger shell, using a duck egg which is harder, coating the ends of the egg with extra wax in an attempt to make it break proof, and so on). Sure, the children are involved, but as for the rest of us? We may never grow up ;) Dances....See MoreColor/Design Gurus: Please help me pick quilt color for new bed
Comments (0)My husband I just purchased our first bed together and he has given the me the go ahead to splurge on buying a new quilt (and we will eventually replace our existing linens/duvets etc). We're looking for something to last a long while, right now I've been looking at Coyuchi's Twilight Quilt i love the organic, soft aesthetic. But if anyone has any other suggestions for a high quality product please let me know! We'll add a new duvet/insert later, that's some serious $$$. This is our bedroom (the photo is from the perspective of the bed (it's in a nook with our office/book public space on the other side). Excuse the mess , crooked picture and the artistic toddler work on the white walls which will be repainted this week : ) We're remodeling our entire house and acquiring furniture etc. so it's a decorate and acquire slowly as we go. Fun, but lots of room for improvement and more art! I love the white color quilt, but I'm terrified about the dirt factor. I think the gray may be too cool. You see my old waverly quilt which is 15+ years old, it's held up great, but is finally starting to show its age. Plus it will be too small for our new bed : ( HALP!!! Comments (0)Whether you’re moving into a new house or want to brighten up your current living space, painting your home is an easy and affordable way to create a major impact. Before you start mixing up paint colours at the store, here are some tips from an interior designer to help you choose wisely and prevent expensive do-overs. 1. Let your personal taste guide you. This seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people choose paint colours for rooms based on what’s hot this season, or what they’ve seen on a home design show. Don’t let trends or friends lead you to colours that aren’t you. Let your personality shine through in your paint colours and you’ll be happy looking at them for years to come. For example, the client’s love of the outdoors and the birds that visit their expansive garden were the inspiration for this home design project I did. The walls throughout the main living area were painted a soft mauve/grey, creating the perfect backdrop for the deep blue accents used in the formal living room and shots of colours found in the garden. 2. Follow the colour wheel. The bases of the colour wheel are three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. The three secondary colours are combined of these and make orange, green, and purple. The six tertiary colours are mixes of the secondary colours, resulting in colours such as blue-green and red-orange. Here’s where it gets creative. You can use the colour wheel to help you choose paint colours for rooms. Pick complementary colours on the colour wheel (directly opposite each other) for a striking, modern look. Or, consider analogous colour schemes (next to each other on the color wheel) in rooms where you want to create a relaxing, casual feel. 3. Match paint colours to the mood of the room. Different rooms in your home have different moods. How do you feel when you’re in the bedroom, living room or kitchen? Maybe you like to host lively dinner parties in your dining room, so opting for warm and bright paint colours is ideal for your evenings with friends. If you think of your bedroom as an oasis after a long day, soft and cool colours will be soothing. Keep in mind certain colours can also bring out different moods. Blue can be calming, but pastel blue can come across as icy. Red is exciting, but may be too intense for certain areas. White gives off a feeling of cleanliness, but might be too sterile-looking for some people. 4. Factor in the lighting. It’s important to consider the lighting of the room when choosing paint colours for your home. How much natural or artificial light does that particular room get? Light fixtures, candlelight and natural light can drastically change the way your paint colours look. The room direction also makes a big difference. If your bedroom faces south, it will get more light throughout the day, which intensifies colours. An east-facing kitchen will get the most light in the morning, so warmer colours might be ideal if you spend lots of time in this room in the evening. 5. Get a design consultation. Colour is the most effective way to brighten up you home and create a harmonious flow. However, with so much information and advice out there, choosing paint colours for your home can seem overwhelming. Why not start with a Colour Consultation with me? Choosing the perfect paint colours for rooms is easy when you have an experienced design guide to help you along the way. Book your consultation now. No matter what paint colours you choose, enjoy bringing your home to life in this easy and affordable way!...See Morebudge1
