Q for Grainlady

Grainlady, I hope you're reading. Last week I asked about using substitues for sugar and you said you use Agave Nectar. I found some at the store today and wondered how much agave you uses in place of the sugar and how much you reduce the liquid. A website suggested 3/4 cup agave to one cup of sugar and reduce the liquid by 1/3. Does this sound right? I'm tired of wasting ingredients by pouring stuff down the sink.

I am so confused about what DH can and cannot eat. He is on a special diet for cancer and he cannot have refined sugar or white flour. The diet says he can have Sucanat, raw sugar or turbino sugar. Brown sugar is OK. BUT, everything I read about cancer eating says that cancer loves sugar and it should be avoided. It doesn't specify what type of sugar - "table" sugar, all these raw sugars - how about the sugars that are found naturally in food. I'm just one confused cook.

I would appreciate any insight anyone could give me on this question. You would think that at my age I'd know something, but I'm just a country girl and grew up eating a lot of the wrong things.

Thanks.
