Thanks for the spot remover recipe

Thanks to whoever posted the spot remover recipe. I have just mixed my 2nd batch, and it has removed every spot, though sometimes I have had to soak the spot and launder it twice.

In an old Windex spray bottle I mixed--
3 parts peroxide
1 part blue Dawn dish detergent

It works best if you spray it on liberally and let it sit 15 minutes before laundering. It even got all the poster paint off my grandson's shirt. I don't know how he got splatters of black paint all over the back of his shirt.

I've used it religiously, too Sheila!! Great stuff. Hmmm I'm pretty sure I put something else in mine as well.....baking soda, I think.

Okay....this recipe has been posted many times and I truly believe all of the accolades. It still makes me nervous, though. Why does the hydrogen peroxide that I use on my teeth and gums a couple of times a week bleach my towels if I'm careless but won't do the same to clothing, carpeting, etc.?

Does the liquid detergent alter the chemical composition of the peroxide? Inquiring minds want to know, lol.

This is probably blackspot. The lesions are characterized by fringy margins. You may as well remove the spotted leaves now, as they will die anyway. No need to worry about blackspot in Southern California. You don't have enough rain for it to be a chronic problem. No need to worry about introducing any fungus to the garden. Either it will always be there because the climate favors it or it will rarely if ever be much of a problem. (Possible exception might be downy mildew.)

It's possible that the oils from the feet have eaten through the finish, but it may just be a reaction with the cleaners/oils that have been applied. First try cleaning off all the old polish and applying a good paste wax. If that doesn't help, you may well have to do a refinish job. Regular spray polish doesn't protect the wood finish as well as a good paste wax. An option after you fix the spots is to have a glass top made for the table if it is a valuable piece and you can't get people to stop putting their feet up on the table. This Fall I purchased a "package" from my CS for 3 treatments of BBL for this issue. The package cost me $600. I am very underwhelmed by the results --- only 2 small spots dissappeared. I would stick with some kind of Retinoid that works for you (I can't tolerate much so I use a 1% clinical retinoid by Paula's Choice) and Vit c serum. I think this is the best bang for your buck. I'm really put off that I was so sold on the BBL ---- assured that it would be effective, that I scheduled a followup meeting to let the CS know how disappointed I am. $600 is a lot of money for nothing!

This is one you posted KT Stain Remover 5 min prep 1/2 cup Clorox 2 powder bleach 1/2 cup Ivory liquid dish washing soap (original formula) you can make this using any amount of "ingredients", as long as the Clorox 2 Powder (it MUST be the powder) and Ivory dish washing liquid are mixed in equal parts. If "Ivory Joy dish washing liquid" continues to appear, be aware that this is IVORY not Joy liquid. 2. Add luke warm water to the mixture, enough to make a sudsy "bath" for your items. 3. Let the garment sit covered in the water for at least one hour. 4. Check to see if the stain has disappeared. 5. If it is still there, soak until the stain is gone. I was worried about bleaching, rhizo, and tested it on a couple of old t-shirts.

I also spot treat my clothes why I see the stain, and it can be days before I do laundry. No problems whatsoever with bleaching. Maybe the dishwashing liquid coats it and acts as a barrier? Who knows.

So are y'all saying this same recipe is safe for carpet and upholstered furniture?

I've cleaned up cat yak with it on the carpet.

I usually go between this recipe and the homemade liquid detergent recipe for spot cleaning carpets.

What I like about the homemade one, is that there are no suds. The Dawn one makes suds when I scrub, which I'm not keen on. :) But they both work.

Granlan I sprayed it on an upholstered dark fabric chair to remove a stubborn stain, three applications and the chair looks brand new. I was nervous too the first time. I used the exact formula above.

What amuses me is it bleaches out the blue in the Dawn when you mix them.

What % of Peroxide do you use? If you look at the bottle, it comes in different strengths.

I did some Googling about this, and have decided that I'll probably try this recipe, but only after a little spot test on a non visible location.

I used a peroxide mix like this that I found on Pinterest to try to clean up a cat vomit stain and it bleached my carpet. (We had plans to rip it shortly thereafter anyway so I wasn't upset.) Definitely test first!
