Jenn-Air Slide Electric Range with Convection - anyone have this?

I have a chance to buy the following Jenn-Air electric range from my KD at an amazing price. She is switching to gas; I wish I could get gas as well, but it's not a possiblity currently.

JENN-AIR JES8850CAS

Mostly what I read about Jenn-Air is very negative. Just wondered if anyone has this particular model range. I had thought I would buy one of the GE Profile electric slide-ins, but I don't want to miss a chance to get a good deal.

If you have this range, could you give feedback (positive and negative)?

I bought a Jenn-Air Slide In Range w/ Convection 2 yrs. ago for the lakehouse we built and I love it. Mine is dual fuel, though - electric oven/warmer and gas fueled cooktop.

I know it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but just wanted to offer feedback as regards the Jenn-Air brand. I'd read a lot of negative posts on the Appliance Forum regarding the brand and was a bit skeptical. (Later came to realize there's no brand everyone there agrees is good..) But it had all the features I wanted and the price was right, too.

I have a pro range in my home (previous owner had bought it because her son was a chef..) and I like my Jenn-Air just as much. The oven heats up quickly and bakes evenly. Love the warming oven feature, particularly when I'm prepping breakfasts and for evenings when I can have warm (but not dried out) appetizers ready to go when guests come.

We've entertained lots at the lake in the past couple years and my stove has had a real workout with several cooks at the helm. I really like mine, haven't had any problems, and would buy another without hesitation.

You will need to begin planning a kitchen remodel. It may be a "light" one, where you reconfigure some cabinetry and venting to just be able to put in new appliances, or it may morph into a major one. After, all, it's a 1979 kitchen! :) The least expensive and best functional change would be to get a new slide in type range and an overhead vent. The next would be to get a cooktop with downdraft that could hook up to the old venting that you have----the ducting, not the motor. You would then have to figure out another location for a wall oven. Ranges cannot be used with popup downdrafts, even though you've probably seen a few idiots on the home channels do this. It moves the downdraft (which is never effective to begin with) too far from what needs to be vented, and you have to void the warranty to figure out how to house the downdraft mechanism that's meant to go under a cooktop. Either way, since you seem to have diagnosed your current range issue, continue to DIY patch it until you can accomplish the remodel. If you have to pay labor to repair the range, then plan on doing the remodel sooner rather than later, as labor in a failing Jennair will eat your remodel budget alive and you might as well be spending it on your replacements. In the meantime, you'd be surprised at what you can accomplish with a good quality good sized toaster oven and freestanding induction cooktop. Many people purchase those items to get them through the period without their kitchen and end up keeping them in the remodeled kitchen. If money is really tight, that would be the way to go, and just use the piece of junk as counterspace to hold the small appliances.

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago about buying a range from an internet company. I got great feedback and was just about to order when I received a card in the mail from a local distributor. I called them and they agreed to match the best on-line price I could find. So I went in and ordered the range! I did have to pay the sales tax, but felt it was worth it to keep my money in my local economy and to have a company close by that I could call should problems arise. Okay, now -- the stove is in my kitchen and my husband will be installing tonight (hopefully!). Anyone out there have tips or suggestions about the Jenn Air install? He was looking at that fan motor and the hole in the floor from the old stove and just hoping it wasn't too much of a hassle. I must say, the sounds of aggravation coming out of his mouth last night as he pulled the old stove out -- have me wondering how we'll endure counterop installation! :-)

Update on our experience with this range: Here to provide an update 5 years in. It's been a mixed bag. Still have the range and it still performs well overall. However, I have had some issues that have reduced my enthusiasm. I've now replaced the electronic panel twice and the fan designed to cool the panel also failed. I suspect that electronic panel will need to be replaced every 2-3 years. There is just not enough insulation between the heat sources and the electronic panel. There is a designated fan to keep it cool but I don't think it is sufficient. I also had the fan itself die. Thus far Jenn-Air have been pretty good about the repairs. The most recent situation was a couple of months ago and the control panel died rendering the oven unusable. Jenn-air paid for the parts and I had to pay for the labor. I doubt that support will continue into the future. Also where I live getting a competent tech to come out hasn't always been easy. One fo the companies that Jenn-air arranged to service the range was absolutely horrible and never bothered to show up at all. I think this design is flawed and makes me now weary of recommending this product. The other thing that has become more annoying is that the control panel and the knobs tend to get really grubby from cooking. Their location on the top rather than the front has advantages (harder for little kids to play with and accidentally turn on) and disadvantages (messy). I didn't seem to mind this initially but it bugs me more and more now. All of the non-electronic bits have held up really well (grates, burners, igniters, pan under burners etc.). The door is still operates very smoothly. If I had it to do over again I think I would splurge and go for the open-burner range I coveted at the time (Bluestar or Capital) and avoid all the fancy electronics.

Among JennAir, Cafe and KitchenAid, which induction slide-in range?

I would get the Cafe so as to avoid the maligned AquaLift. Also, the Cafe will give you knob-based control for each hob, whereas the KA / JA require two presses - one to first select the hob, then another to adjust the power level. Honorable mention to the GE Profile slide in induction range as well (same basic range as the Cafe but different look and controls). Just upgraded my mom to this one and she's loving it. I had a GE Profile induction range 2013-2019 (I moved away) and it was great. My oven was slow to preheat, but my mom says that her new one is quite fast, so it seems that GE addressed the issue. I don't have the slide-in, but I do have the Jenn-Air JER8895 electric free-standing range with double ovens. I like it very much plus I think it is a beautiful range. I actually bought all Jenn-Air appliances and I'm very happy with them (so far).

I bought this model 2 or 3 years ago and it is beautiful to look at and is functioning well now. However i had it a few months and the oven electric component failed completely. To cut a long story short, i could only use the cook top for the few months it took to replace it.
Also the black lettering on the knobs are fading- Cleaning service products?
As i said it is functioning well but I feel that I am waiting for the other shoe to fall as I lost my confidence in it.

I have the exact range. I've had it for 3 years and really like it. The top grills are a little annoying to clean because they are very heavy. Otherwise, no problems. Make sure you learn to use the convection. It's great.
