Electrolux Icon 36' Induction or Jenn-Air 36' Gas Downdraft Stove
Comments (4)We recently bought a house with an older Amana downdraft gas range. After cooking on electric coil then electric glass top for the last 11 years I was excited to have gas... until I cooked on it. For an old piece of junk range, the downdraft was remarkably strong. Therein was the problem: the downdraft sucks the flames inward so cooking was horribly uneven. I really wanted to go induction but there wasn't room to do an induction range plus pop up downdraft and the cost of relocating an oven to a wall and doing an induction cooktop and pop up vent was cost prohibitive, so instead we bought a new gas range and are installing (in the coming weeks!) an overhead island vent, since our range is on a peninsula. Sorry this got so long, but I have strong feelings about the darn gas downdraft after being stuck with it for the last 6 months. Funny PS - we got our new range Thursday, ahead of doing our countertops early next month. It can't be installed right away due to an issue with the location of the gas outlet thingy and also the existing counters are in the way by about 1/4 inch. I'm happy cooking with a two burner hot plate, a toaster oven and a 12 year old convection oven combo microwave. That's how much I loathe the gas downdraft....See MoreJenn Air Downdraft Range Replacement Options
Comments (8)I am in the same boat. Replacing my second Jennair, --maybe I should just keep it? Can not help you too much. what I have been told, is that the size of the ductwork will be different. Depending on the space and the size of the ducts in the new system, you could be looking at trouble. Either that there will not be space in your cabinet or under the cabinet, for the new size of duct. Or expensive work, and frustrated installer having to go out to buy the right attachments. SO I am going to dig out my old Jennair materials and take that with me to a dealer to see what best matches it. Maybe even photograph what is under your current cooktop and downdraft. One dealer told me it washighly likely that the new downdraft would have totally different sized ducts. The point is that Jennair was pretty ineffective, and the new one might be better, but trouble to install. You may need to replace the ductwork....See MoreJenn-Air slide in electric downdraft
Comments (0)Hello, I was wondering if anyone has the Jenn-Air model # JES9750BA and if so whether or not you like it. There is a scratch and dent sale ( no scratches/no dents actually) that has an attractive price on one which is tempting me. Our 10 year old Jenn-Air slide in electric modular range has a problematic control panel so the oven doesn't work. The stove top cooking elements work fine on top, I just can't nake or broil anything. Cost to repair will run about $500 but the part has been on backorder for 4 months. Our choices are to 1- wait for the part and fix it if it ever comes in, 2-leave it where it is and keep using only stove top cartidges/grill/griddle and buy a new built-in 27 inch wall oven to go into the existing cutout in our cabinets. Currently the cutout houses my cookbooks and I'm okay with the look. Sort of wondering if the newer Jenn-Air slide in will have the same control panel issues as the old one we have now and perhaps it would be better to buy a new wall oven. Cost will be about the same. Thanks for any advice, much appreciated....See MoreJenn Air Downdraft Replacement
Comments (5)Thanks for your thoughts, halbert and yandj. I didn't realize that the cooktop would need so much space. I am not sure yet as to whether I want to give up cabinet space for an oven. LOL, mavia-2000. My range is still going strong. The fridge died and we replaced it with a Samsung SS. Since the dishwasher sounds like a plane overhead whenever I have to turn it on, I am considering replacing the dw and the range with SS. It is good to know that I might have sixteen years to figure out the cooking arrangement. What Wolf downdraft are you getting? Could I also use the Dacor or Wolf telescopic downdraft behind a slide in range? I have about two and a half inches between the slide in and the backsplash. I could hook it to the venting system that is already in place....See Moreoasisowner
