One surprise after another

Our son has always been the quiet one. He has friends but likes to be home. Well, last week he anounced he it driving to Florida with a group of his friends. No problem since he is almost 21 and plenty old enough to go. Just NEVER thought he would do this. And he is so excited.

About a 1/2 hour ago he asked his sister to go with him to buy new clothes!! Another big shock.

Whats going on? Who took my kid?

I am not complaining, I think it's great.

Just thought I would share.

Somebody's gotten to him. GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! on spring break. Well, more power to him. Might be a late bloomer, but it is the time before I might have worried LOL. Yep, it's really great. I ask my daughter sometimes, "Who the heck are you, and would you please send my daughter back to me???" She fails to see the humor. teehee

My DIL lives in Panama City Beach, ACROSS from the beach on Surf Drive - one of the primo beaches for spring break. To hear her tell it, the place is 'standing room' or 'drunks-laying-in-doorways' room only for three weeks in March.

She can't let the grandkids go outside without an adult holding their hand. She said last year, they had a drunk laying in front of her door, and the cops had to literally pick the guy up and move him - he was in a kind of alcoholic coma!

I guess mayhem is the order of the day!

I have no major complaints about my garden, but I can't stop worrying about global warming, the starving polar bears, the overfished blue fin tuna whose demise will completely upset the ocean ecosystem, dolphins and whales being slaughtered as though they were cockroaches, endless tornadoes laying waste to a third of the country, oil spills, world-wide pesticide overuse, senseless killings everywhere, and I could go on and on. I feel as though I'm living in a relatively untouched island in the sky and that all around me everything is going to hell in a handbasket, and it won't be long before this too is ruined in some way. Floridarose's post made me so frustrated, just another piece of stupidity foisted on humanity by short-sighted and greedy politicians whose palms are probably being greased by the strawberry lobby. I think I'm done now and will proceed to read a cozy mystery where none of those things are ever mentioned. Thank you for allowing me this useless but still somewhat cleansing vent. Hey Guys, I was at Lowes today and they moved the rack of misguided amaryllis to the back! I stole pollen...is that illegal?? Anyway, they had 2 of these Deep Red blooms winding out of boxes, their back petals were white splashed with greed mid ribs, but center flowers were deep red to like red/black throats. They were so stressed, poor babies. They were in Red Lion boxes, but next to the other pathetic orangey/red Lions, they were definately NOT RLs...so ok I stole pollen!! lol Wonder what they are...I was on another mission so I didn't barter or try to get an Ami deal, I just stole pollen!

I hope it continues down south a bit. It's getting frustrating seeing rain in the forecast and then nothing happening. I'm north of San Diego and sure can use the rain. My plants are strictly rainwater fed. I have a catchment system that is strictly for the trees and garden. I'm so so tempted to use the city water but I know as soon as I do, it'll pour rain haha

I'm so sorry for all of your losses. I feel that way,also. My life was wonderful and still is, but it changed dramatically at age 45. I used to always wonder when the happy bubble would burst and it did. At age 45, I lost my 19 year old daughter suddenly due to an accident. 9 months later, my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and died 6 years later. Four years later, my only niece died due to a hospital error which caused severe illness prior to her death. A year after that loss, my dad died after suffering from cancer for two years. I tell myself that all of this is just part of life when we get older. I know that not everyone has to deal with the loss of a child, but most everyone will deal with the death of parents, siblings, and friends throughout their lifetime and it's something that we just have to live through the best that we can, along with along with all the good things such as births, graduations, weddings etc. For me, the illnesses, deaths and griefs have been overlapped and very difficult. The only advice I can give you is just to know that you are not alone in this and that it is a part of life. Wouldn't it be wonderful if none of us had to deal with all of this sadness? That's just not the way it is supposed to be though, I don't think. I wish you the best.

That happened to us too. Our DS was 22 before he finally had a real date. I kept telling DH, who was dispairing of DS ever getting a girl, that someday we'd turn around and suddenly there she'd be. And that's exactly what happened.

He kept her for about 6 months and now he's got another one. There's hope yet!

ONCE college students were in our group on a spring cruise. Well, us seniors, were outnumbered.

Once we got on ship, what a bunch of drunks!
Hit Jamaica, Margaritaville, and one of "ours" was going down slide buck naked!

They finally settled down a bit, mid-cruise, or they were just too hungover to make such a ruckus!

Ahhh yes, I do believe Spring Break is calling his name. It is an exciting time. Sometimes I kiddos can still surprise us. Hopefully he'll have a great time and stay safe.

Kayjones, I know exactly where Surf Drive is so your DIL and I could have crossed paths several times. DH and I had a weekend place just off of Thomas Drive and Surf Drive until a couple of years ago. We always stayed home during Spring Break. And...Thunder on the Beach. I'm sure your DIL probably crinches when that's mentioned. No quiet times then. LOL

Grace, DIL moved there a couple of years ago - beautiful place - I spend Thanksgiving there - 85 degrees - just lovely!
