Panic! Paint colors

Hello everyone, I am new to the forums but have been lurking since starting to build my new lake home. You all have such great taste and wonderful ideas! My home is very open with lots of windows and mulitple floors due to narrow lot. I am at the paint stage and due to the lighting issues went with a brighter/darker then I would have normally chosen. The painters have started and now I am in a panic! I do not know if these will work! I am going to try and post pics with selections not only of paint but of the rooms and cabinetry/flooring/tile choices. But basics are: the kitchen cabs are SW Westhighland White, basically a Shaker style with Bahia brown granite. Floors are Buckskin Cherry laminate. Fireplace surround and trim throughout house is Westhighland white. Lower level walkout snack bar is same shaker cab but in natural maple with autumn indian summer laminate tops and glass backsplash. LL fireplace is slate, floor tiles are Serenghetti sunset. Carpeting on guest and master level is Smartstrand yacht club (light)

The main paint chosen was SW Sands of Time and it is much darker then I thought. The bedrms: blue is SW Regale blue and much brighter, the green is SW Springtime and much yellower. Blue bedroom is lakeside and green is behind it with limited light. The Sands of time runs top to bottom in the core of the house so is most important!

New samples to look at today: SW Kilin Beige SW Nomadic Desert for main areas. Or what do you think of Jersey Cream in keeping with "cottage" look? Main area will be $500 to change!

Bedrooms: new samples: SW Upward and SW Honeydew.

Sorry for the length, I appreciate any and all advice and promise to post pics as project progresses.

I went to SW store over lunch and brought back a bunch of color samples. The believable buff is pretty but very different than what is shows as on my monitor. I am still considering it. The whole wheat is too dark but at least I have a start on the process.

Paint stripping panic

Not sure exactly what this stuff is, but the MSDS and other sources indicate that it mostly water, which could be problematic interacting with your newly stripped surface. A picture would help, but you can also do a couple of experiments. In a small area try rinsing the stripped surface with real mineral spirits or paint thinner (make sure it's listed as flammable on the label) and 0000 steel wool or a green scotchbrite pad. Also try the same thing with methanol and with your paint stripper. I'm betting the white stuff will disappear with one of them. I like methanol for the final cleanup after a methylene chloride (dichloromethane) based stripper. (Work with lots of ventilation and an appropriately labeled respirator, obviously) It may just be residual paint that was relatively transparent when wet but turned white on drying. If so, keep stripping. It often takes three scrub and rinse steps after all obvious paint is gone to get rid of the haze-- and you never completely get rid of it, but it does then disappear when the piece is finished, just like when wet. You'll want to test in a non-obvious area. If you're going to use a water based finish (I wouldn't) after stripping you may want to use scotchbrite pads rather than steel wool so that you don't end up with rusty spots in your final finish from tiny bits of residual steel wool.

It's hard to know the true colors, looking at them as a company presents them on its website. I can say that I prefer Monorail Silver, from what I see; but only you can see this or that color in your space, with your light. I presume you tried the samples? If yes, which one you love more? If no-try the samples in your bathroom first. That's the surest way to see the representation of color. If you do the crown molding-I'd keep the ceiling the same color as the crown molding. If you weren't-I'd advice on Ice Cube, or some lighter version of your wall color. With standard/lower ceiling, you either want the less contrast with the wall as possible-or visual illusion that the ceiling is higher, by working with trim as if it was continuation of the ceiling. There might be more tricks, so I'm sharing just my limited experience. You wrote the painting starts on Monday, and today's Monday, so you already probably decided on something:) Sorry I didn't see the post... Now for the only thing that you didn't have to decide by today..orange/paprika won't clash with the blueish-grays..it will complement them. Meaning-both orange and blue gray will look really vivid on each other's background. You'll kinda underscore both these colors. Which might look really beautiful. Small spaces like bathrooms actually can carry a lot of colors-you don't spend there as much time as in bigger rooms, so you don't get tired. You are also actually using quite a restrained palette..I wouldn't worry about introducing orange, at all.

I purchased a somewhat contemporary home on the Oregon Coast last year. It is now time to choose an exterior paint color. I am leaning toward Benjamin Moore Sea Haze for the siding and painting the doors an orange color. Some people have commented that gray is bad for the coast because of all the gray skies. I have already purchased about 60 different colors of greens, grays and blues. I have no idea what to do with this style of home and location. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am open to any suggestions. I am posting photos of the home and some of the color ideas I am looking at...please help. Fence is down and a new cedar picket style with railing in being installed next week. every room has a view and the home has all new full light doors.

I love the colors you have. I am not a pro, but I think you need bold colors with so much light. Fabulous home and to-die-for view. Hope you post finished pics.

Thank you cyn427. yes, I am very blessed to be able to do this project and that view is one of the reasons I chose to move permanently and build.

I tried SW Kilim Beige today, very nice but washes right out in the kitchen areas with the winter light. SW Nomadic Desert did the best throughout the house.

I like the SW Sands of Time. Granted it looks dark now against the primed walls but you have a ton of light and light cabinets and once the walls are all done I think it will look much softer than it does in the photo. Colour is always scary dark at this stage. I'm looking at the slice of tile on the right side in photo 17 and it looks like it blends really well with Sands. Assume you matched it to the counter/backsplash?
Lucky you - that view of the sunset is breathtaking.

Thank you elsa42. I keep reminding myself that this is only one piece of the finshed room(s) but it is oh so scary! I took 3 sample boards, all SW-- Pavillion Beige, Sands of time and Nomadic Dessert and went over with all samples of tiles/flooring/cab for each area and played, got different opinions. The Pavillion Beige really grayed out, the Nomadic Dessert was a good match but I originally thought it would be too light given the natural light so chose Sands. Now the Sands is a beautiful color--like melted milk chocolate--but seems to warm and deep - I did match to tile in #17pic but again it now appears much deeper and darker now that whole room is painted...

Sometimes, when you do the sample boards, it just doesn't tell the whole story. Once it's on the wall it really takes on the real color.
