Just another reason I'm a bit paranoid about PP! I had this saved, knowing one day it would probably come in handy!

I don't think they necessarily know you have PP, I think they just send them to everyone. I could be wrong, though. I've never had a problem with PP.

I've had one Paypal account since 2000, and I've never had to change my password or had any other problem with it. When I get those "verification" emails, I forward them to spoof@paypal dot com. They always answer back that those emails are frauds. Paypal already knows your identity and passwords, so they won't ask you for them.

I will never use paypal again. I used it once several years ago, set up through a cc account. Last year there was a charge on that card that neither DH or I made, called cc company and disputed the charge. I was told it was through paypal and I needed to contact them for the details. Paypal refused to give any information on the charge, cc company eventually got the info from them and removed the charge. It took about six months, hate them.

I have never had a problem with pay pal. I get the email junk also but it usually goes right to my bulk folder. Just never click on the links or give out info.

Having a Paypal account isn't the source of the phishing. Like Jannie I've been using Paypal for years without incident. Never had to change my password and never had anyone hack my account.

I love it. It's one of the most secure ways not only to purchase goods on eBay and from other online stores but also to send money to anyone else who has an account.

I even keep telling my Red Hat ladies that if they all had accounts it would be soooooo much easier to collect money for events. I hate writing checks so I always try to pay cash to the person and have them sign a receipt.

I've never had a problem with paypal either. I've had plenty of those phishing messages and just send them to spoof and ignore them.

I did pay once for something with paypal and never received it. It was something I should have been allowed access to on the computer and not something that was mailed. No answers to any of the emails from the seller. I put in a complaint with paypal and they very quickly refunded my money.

Blaming PayPal for email scams is silly. It's actually a very safe way of doing business especially when you use a credit card. You have the extra protection of challenging the charge through the card if there's an issue. I had a problem with a vendor and PayPad didn't want to do anything. They did stall me and I should have known better. What I should have done was just challenge the charge, but that was my stupidity. Live and learn.

I do not have a Paypal account yet every now and then I get an email from "Paypal" about "my account". My bank advises to ignore all emails having to do with finances as no reputable bank would contact their customers by email and ask for personal financial information.

I have used PayPal for years and have never had a problem. Like others, I have also gotten messages telling me i need to update info or change passwords for my PayPal account but I just forward them on to PayPal and ignore them. PayPal makes life so much easier for me!!!

I use PayPal all the time and have had no problems and no phishing emails, either. If you have good security on your computer and you're careful to only use secure websites when ordering things, I think it's very safe to use.

The reason terilyn gives for disliking them is probably the reason I like them. They won't give out info easily at all. Plus, a charge on your credit card you didn't make is your credit card companies responsibility to take care of. I had one on mine years ago for a company I never did business with. I never had to contact that company myself... my complaint was directly with the credit card company. You're probably mad at the wrong entity. Your gripe should have been with the credit card company, not Paypal. Next time send a certified letter to your credit card company stating you did not make those charges, and I think they probably have to take them off.

It just bugs me that someone has my e-mail and seems to know when I use PP. Thanks for all the input, and Country B thanks for the phone number.

I get the same type of emails from Wells Fargo, and I don't have an account there.

Another happy user here. I've used them for about 10 years, never any problems at all, never had to change my password. I've never gotten any spoof emails, either.
