quick--inside cupboards color

I just found out this morning that the plan is for the inside of my drawers and cupboards to be clear coated. I have tried throughout my remodel to keep the look somewhat compatible with my 1930's house's age and the clear coating of the wood feels very modern to me. The outside of the cabinets is a cream with a taupe glaze. One option offered me is to clear coat the drawer and paint the inside of the cabinets. (Obviously, the cabinets with glass windows will be painted on the inside) But I am being told that it is strongly recommended to stay with clear coat at least on the inside of the drawers as it shows dings less. So my question: should I just let them clear coat the inside of everything except the glass cabinets or should I do the drawers clear and the cabinets painted? Will that look funny? Or will clear coated cabinet insides look funnier in my 1930's house? Advice, pictures, anyone? They are carrying things to the truck as I write...Thanks so much!
