just used peel away 1 on a tin ceiling. what a job that was. the house is an 1860 antique with little detail so that preserving the tin ceiling was important in the stairwell. i figure 1 coat of paint every 10 yrs minimum so that is about 15 layers of paint. old oil paints with lots of good lead and mercury plus a highly patterned tin design made heat guns verboten! i applied the stripper as per instructions, covered it with the provided paper and bought some more. it worked but what a mess. the paint did not come off with the paper but happily fell down like farm yard turds. applying the stuff was not the easiest either since while working overhead, some of it fell. aside from the annoyance of losing any of this expensive material, it proved to be extremely caustic. it begins to burn upon contact with skin. the gloves provide dont permit cuffing so it was easy for the stuff to get under the edges of the glove. i would up with a major necrotic burn which i was unaware of because of my focus on the work. it has taken 2 weeks for it to lose its dead skin & scab and begin to fill in. very dangerous stuff. although it did a respectable job if you dont expect perfection, it was less than stellar around the edges of the ceiling on the crown moldings. too much air gets under the edges and interferes with the chemical action. i did try in on simpler surfaces; ie some door trim and a couple of flat vertical door panels. the removal was more successful, but the paper still did not adhere to the goo. a call to tech support at dumond gave me the suggestion of working with smaller paper pieces, applying the goo to the paper and then lifting in into place. not a doable idea on the ceiling. the paper became too heavy and curled on itself while trying to lift it up. not a one person job. i would use the product again and will on the doors and some of the trim, but protecting the floor is a must and wearing long cuffable gloves essential.

mugsisme, this is a bit off topic, but could you give me the low down on the magna hoop? I would really like to have input from someone that owns and has used it (ie, likes, dislikes, advantages, disadvantages). I have been embroidering for about 5 years now, doing things by way of the old hooping process, but I really want to be sure the magnahoop is worth the money before I jump right in and invest in another embroidery "aide". I have been thinking of purchasing one for either my 5 x 7 or 6 x 10 hoop for my Brother machine as I can't afford both sizes right now. Is there a size that you prefer over another? Does it really hold the fabric snugly as Eileen says? Eager to get your feedback. Thanks for your assistance. It is much appreciated!! As for the topic I interrupted, when doing bath towels, I use a cutaway on the bottom and a thin, clear solvy as a topper. (And even though it is difficult, I do hoop the towel.) When embroidery is complete, I trim the cutaway close. (By using the cutaway, your embroidery won't fall into the pile of your towels after repeated washings.) With the topping, I use tweezers and a gentle pull to remove from spaces within my design and then hit it with the spray bottle of water to remove my center markings and any left over topping. I can see the plywood subfloor through a slice in the vinyl; it appears in very good condition. No underlayment. Our house is 83 yrs. old, but we won't be leveling this floor. (When the vinyl is removed, I plan to ease up a piece of plywood and see what's underneath - dreaming of hardwood.) Quick Extra Q.: My kitchen is roughly 130 square feet, and not oddly configured. How much time should I set aside for this job. (And can you walk on it right away?)

I had the same problem with a new he top load washer. Black clothes coming out with white residue streaks, dirtier than when they went in! The stopgap solution was to do a second wash cycle with no detergent but a half cup of vinegar. Very frustrating. Was definitely not using too much detergent (still happened with a half dozen different brands of HE detergent) or overloading the machine and was using liquid detergents. Tried everything the manuals and company websites said, called the manufacturer, used a dozen of those affresh cleaning tablets they recommended, multiple empty loads with vinegar, multilpe empty loads with baking soda, had a maintenance technician come and they were all of no help. Even disassembled and cleaned the damn thing myself based upon a bunch of youtube videos. Months and months of frustration and unsuccessful approaches. In the end, what eliminated the problem was using the normal wash with extra rinse option activated. Now the blacks come out clean with no residues. It seems like these HE machines are too efficient by not supplying enough rinse water. Extra rinse made the problem go away. Definitely making me pause before buying a HE model next time.
