How could something so pretty....

turn out so badly? Because I didn't trust my gut LOL. Yesterday I made probably the worst cake I've ever made and all because I trusted that the person who posted this recipe on the internet (NOT on this forum) knew what they were talking about. I read the recipe and even did a little research on similiar recipes (cold oven poundcakes) and still followed the recipe instead of my instincts. The culprit? Melting the butter instead of creaming it as most cake recipes instruct. When I pulled it out of the oven, the 3 sticks of butter in the cake were literally bubbling and boiling in the pan. I made it to take over to some friends last night and after I cut it and saw the inside which looked and tasted like greasy rubber, I promptly packed the cake back up and apologized to the hosts for the cake. Luckily they are old friends and laughed it off. Moral of the story, trust your instincts :)
