adding rigid foam insulation to inside walls

Hi all,

I'd like to add 2.5" of polyiso board to the inside of my 2x4 framed walls that currently have rockwool batts between the studs. This is more than the 1.5" of rigid foam that many people claim you can add directly to a stud wall in a continuous layer without strapping, so my plan is to add 2x3 horizontal strapping 24" o.c. and cut the boards to fit in between the straps. Any gaps between the board and the strapping would be sealed with expanding form.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,

Paul N.
