Any advice on using IKEA Pax closet systems?
Comments (12)Hi daisychain, When we installed hardwood in the bedrooms a couple of years ago, we took off the sliding doors in 1 of the spare room, build pax cabinets and inserted them in the closet space. The doors are also ikea. There was a little bit of a gap in space, maybe 1" or so, going around the sides and top so had sone trim placed around to close up the opening.( not perfect along the top...need a better handyman;) As the room is small, we chose to leave 1 section open without a door for sone display. The drawers are kept empty for any guests. We were torn with using the sliders, but went this route. I think cost for entire setup @'$800 Cdn. FYI, Inside, we have a bar for hanging clothes w/ 1 shelf at top and 2 long drawers at the bottom....See MoreMoving the rail inward for the 14" PAX Closet System
Comments (4)You've got the actual rod and the actual clothes on hangers, so you should be able to tell if you'll truly have enough clearance. BUT....the standard depth for a clothes closet is 24", so that the clothes won't brush against the back wall. So, measure carefully where you want that rod to fall, so that you can be sure there will be enough clearance in the back. Hangers are often 17.5" across, so divide that in half, and you'd need the center of your rod to fall about 9.5" from the back, maybe a little more. Don't crowd them too close....See MoreDrilling new holes in PAX particle board for hanging rail
Comments (1)It's fine to drill holes - we modified our PAX closets and Billy bookcases BUT be sure you want to. A hanger will not fit if the rod is centered in a 14" space. A normal closet is 22" deep. I have deep PAX units, but I also have a coat closet (not IKEA) that is shallower and it's a pain because the hangers can't go in straight....See MoreIKEA PAX birch? Is it the same as the existing PAX system?
Comments (1)How old is what you got already? Usually Ikea makes very few changes in a system that is always sold. The best is to call Ikea As afr as I know they did not use solid birch but a birch veneer and you can see that in the last picture. As for the Komplement items they seem to be the same to me as always I just did a whole room in Pax and it was added to an old Pax system and all the addons worked fine....See MorebrugloverZ9
