Our new PAX system (mostly complete)
Comments (19)We have stocked them with clothes and they are working really well. I didn't get the wooden doors all painted before it got cold, so I haven't installed them yet. I did install the mirror doors in the middle units. I am really happy with them. I'm using them in different ways than I expected. For instance, we put in 2 wide, wooden drawers above the wire shoe drawer in my closet. I had been using them both for jeans and t-shirts. When the weather got cold I put the t shirts in a storage box that fits into the shelves at the top of the unit, and left 1 drawer for jeans. The other drawer is now holding my boots. They lay flat, which is great! I fit 2 pr of long boots in there and 2 pr of calf- height boots as well. I wouldn't have expected to use that drawer for boots but it works well and I wear them more because I can see them better (they aren't at the bottom of a dark closet. The only thing I don't like is that my fav pants hangers are thick at the top. They clamp the bottom cuff of pants and are over 1" wide. Those take up a lot of space and when I have too many extras in there it feels crowded. Otherwise, it's working well for both DH and I....See MoreIkea PAX system or Elfa?
Comments (4)I don't know anything about the Pax line but we just finished installing cabinets and lockers from the Akurum line. The cabinets are heavy, hinges are well made, and the drawers and doors have self/soft closing hardware. My only complaint is that the backing they have for all the cabinets and lockers were made of a 1/8" piece of melamine coated press-board. The site gives details of the material used in each product but I believe the majority are a mix of solid wood (doors/drawer fronts) and melamine covered particleboard. Since you're making a long drive be sure you have a list of 'everything' you need and double check it when you check out. If you're buying any shelves, doors, or drawer fronts I strongly suggest you open the box and make sure it's the right color. We've had to make several returns when parts were missing or the box was marked one color and it was another! Also double check sizes when you receive your order. We bought x number of doors a certain size, but the person that pulled the order gave us the wrong size. Here is a link that might be useful: ikea pax...See MoreMost reasonably priced closet systems? Comments (4)We priced out all of the closet systems ($40,000+ for California Closets anyone?) and like you, cost was king after our renovation. Ikea had Pax on sale over Columbus Day and we just finished installing. Surprisingly easy to design and build and seems sturdy. Just waiting for a few backordered items and we'll be done. I'm told they have 15% off Pax in Jan/Feb each year. I haven't figured out how to upload photos or I'd show you. I love it!!...See MoreIKEA experts - any upcoming PAX sales?
Comments (2)Ikea is having lot's of supply-chain issues. Would go with Modular Closets, they have good designers and are worth the extra cost....See Morelisa_mocha
