creekylis-I was in the same conundrum as you and couldn't find pics for the life of me. It was so hard to picture how it would look but I took the chance and I am happy that I did.

I went from a very dark kitchen and everything in my house is dark stained wood and there is a LOT of it! The PO was a finish carpenter(carpentress) and it shows. I love stained wood but enough was enough.

These pics are of the only item besides the fireplace that is original to the room. My DH would not let me swap out the windows and therefore the conundrum was created. Please ignore the two different tiles on the ledge-our reno is still incomplete.

The large bow window replaced a slightly smaller one that literally took a hit in the demo and had to be replaced(i should have told my GC, who is my DB to have another accident over in the corner windows, too :I am happy the way it turned out in the end, but alot of angst over this decision. Good luck on making yours.

Here is an old pic of our LR wirh white trim but stained french doors:

i don't have pictures, but we have spent a while developing a plan for the trim in our house...some is painted and some stained. this scheme will mean the least amount of stripping for us (although there still is some):
window and door trim will be white (off white really)
windows are almost all white vinyl currently
doors will all be stained dark to match the newer doors upstairs. our old, mismatched doors are being removed one by one--they are not original, just old and damaged flat doors. there is a set of original french doors, currently white, they will be stripped and stained dark.
baseboards are either white painted original 7 inch, or stained 5 inch. the 5 inch are being replaced and all the baseboards will also be white.
i think that stained doors can look nice with white trim...as in the above post. kren

Thanks for your posts... It really helps to see what others have done. It's so hard to picture the final result in your mind. I was thinking I might tape some white paper over some of my trim to get a feel for the final look. It's a tough decision but I think I'm close.
