What color carpet?

Hello all -

we are building a new house, and it's time to pick the carpet color (like tomorrow - time got away from me!)

I know you shouldn't really buy the carpet to match the wall paint, but I selected Sherwin-Williams "Jubilee" as the paint in the rooms that need carpet (secondary bedrooms) - a slightly-blue gray. Trim throughout is white (Sherwin-Williams "Snowbound"). My 11-year-old son (his is the only room where someone will live in it full-time) wants to get a fairly contemporary dark wood bedroom set.

Overall, I want a transitional/soft contemporary feel.

Help - what color carpet should I get? I can't see a beige or cream, and the really dark colors will show dirt too quickly and be too trendy - and I want to keep the carpet for a number of years. Should I go with a light silver-grey? A dark grey (my son actually suggested that)?

Thanks so much - I really have been trying to get this done, but my builder's carpet guys don't seem to be interested in my business so I had to go out and find my own at the last minute.

One of the biggest things I regret with our house was that I picked different color carpets for the bedrooms. When all the doors are open it looks like a patchwork quilt.

My first suggestion was going to be a brown color. Cream doesn't sound like the best idea because of being so light. I would pick something as neutral as possible so you don't limit yourself to paint colors in the future.

You'll find gray carpet very limiting when it comes to changing wall color and decor over time, but if it works with everything you have, go for it.

The grout is a dark, dark grey. We will paint the walls & baseboards so we are wide open with color scheme. Our furniture is more on the dark walnut or mahogany side. I found Behr "light incense" paint which I really like and looks good with the tile (although the online version looks nothing like the paint sample), cream color for the baseboards. We are leaning toward a desaturated "french cream" slightly patterned berber carpet. It's not too yellow and has enough magenta in it to give a warmer feeling to pick up from the tile. We are in AZ and a lot of people here do the saturated western colors. Personnaly, I like having walls more of an accent to my furnishings.

Here's a close up (ignore the table) showing the carpet we chose. It's a stainmaster with some sort of fancy warranty (I forget what it was called), but it was not a special order or anything, just off the roll from the carpet place since we needed it in a hurry. NOTHING shows on this carpet. We have two small children, a dog and a DH all of whom insist on eating in this room.

When we moved into our last house, all the bedrooms had beautiful wood floors. My dd really wanted carpeting. Her room was around 15x17.. a good size. I got a soft feel wall to wall carpet cut to fit and had the edges bound. We also put a soft felt padding underneath. It looked and wore like wall to wall. When we were getting ready to sell 7 years later, we pulled it all up and the floors underneath looked brand new. Tossed the carpet, but used the felt padding under our area rugs in the next house. I would strongly suggest going this route so you have the option of easily going back to wood floors. Don't let installers put tacking strips on those wood floors.

What color carpet to go with BM Ballet White?

Ballet White is an off white with brown undertones. If you look at the BM color chart they recommend a brownish gray, warm red or blue . All warm tones. Definitely earth tones. This gives you lots of options. This designer painted the walls ballet white used White Dove on the trim for contrast and used a purple and light gray woven rug in the space. Here is another room with Ballet White. This time the rug has gold and whites in it.

Sorry I can't help choosing color -

I do agree w/Annz regarding neutral however I strongly advise against seagrass and the likes. They can not be professionally (or otherwise) cleaned - you can't get them wet at all! They shrink and pull away from the tack strips

Hi!

I have carpet in our upstairs bedrooms and one of the rooms is a blue-gray. We went with a tan'ish frieze, and I think it looks fine with the blue/gray walls. I don't have great pics of the carpet in the room, but maybe these will help.
