Looking for rustic 30X48 table

I'm trying to find a table for my kitchen. I'd like a table that has some character to it. Think farmhouse/Tuscany/Provence. The basic shape I'm after is a shaker style but with the legs slightly thicker.

I ordered one online from Target that was unfinished. But when I got it, the top was all pieced with little strips. I think it would look horrible when I stain it a medium brown.

I have looked all over online and I can't seem to find anything. There are a few shaker style tables that are prefinished but they are really dark like ebony and too "slick" looking.

The people who are making my cabinets quoted me at around $900 to make the table but I was really hoping to come in no higher than $500. They were going to make it out of walnut which I'm sure would be beautiful and give me the color I want too. But still looking for a less expensive option.

Ideas anyone?

Have you looked at World Market? They have a 20% off sale right now, and many of theirs are listed at your price point of $500.

Do you have an unfinished furniture store near you? They may have something. Also, I've been working with a local furniture company that deals with lots of vendors and can customize some pieces..I got a 38"x54" trestle table (which could have been distressed had I wanted that) for about $750.

Before you do anything,see if it has wax,polish or silicon on it. If so,it must be removed before sanding or coating. Secound order of business is figuring out what type finish is on it and choosing one that is compatibil.

Our kitchen table is a picnic table, with benches, that my husband's grandfather made. It's honey colored and doesn't go with any of our other wood antiques in oak and walnut; the story carries its provinance. Because somebody mentioned coffee tables- ours is a wooden foot locker inscribed with a Lieutenants' name and serial number. It's not military issued, it'd be something that lieutenant's family would have gifted to him for his duty assignment. We bought it when we were both Captains in the military. Turns out the Lt was from not too far where my husband grew up in Pennsylvania.

world Market has some good rustic tables but none of them fit the size I need. I can't go any bigger than the 30X48. Wish they came smaller.

I would love to find an unfinished furniture store but there aren't any around here. We have a lot of Amish carpenters around but their stuff tends to be very premium priced.

Try www.oldbarnstar.com they have quite a few nice tables and excellent prices, both for finished and unfinished pieces. They are Amish made in Pennsylvania. I may be getting a farm table through them.

I think you're describing a "farm table." You can try googling that, but I doubt you'll find a much better price than that quoted by your cabinetmaker for walnut.
