Have you ever seen a wooden backsplash like this?

I have been looking at this kitchen in a Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen Idea File book that I have had for over two years. I have never seen another kitchen with this type of framed wooden backsplash. In the photos provided they never show what they did behind the stove for a backsplash. Has anyone seen this before? We are thinking about doing this in our kitchen. Sorry the photos are not the best. I took photographs of the books photos.

I have talked to the owner, who loves to rescue old chairs and has THIRTEEN rockers plus many other chairs in his house that he has restored! He says that he and his wife discussed this, and just don't have room for another chair. I honestly don't know where I'd put it at the moment, but it is just so interesting looking... I have an old high school friend who does upholstery, and a cabinet maker former neighbor who does chair repair. I'd probably have to employ both to get this done, so am still pondering...The carving is like nothing I have seen, and that is what intrigues me. I suspect I can get it for less, and may see it this weekend.

Here's the link. When this comes up on Houzz, look at the little photos to the right and you'll see a closer view of the window and tile. It's a crackle tile, so not onyx. Onyx, by the way, isn't a marble or a quartz. Onyx is it's own geological category. Hey irishcreamgirl! Funny you posted now - I finally got the Galeana pendants in on Thurs!! Love them! Once the kitchen was functional, we got very lazy about finishing things up!! We don't have a backsplash yet. I am still on the fence, there have been so many BS posts lately, I didn't want to add another one. DH is a teacher so my goal is to have it done before he starts working again! I will get more photos up in the next couple of weeks - we are still DIY'ing the cabinets surrounding the fireplace in the family room. Went yesterday & found a soapstone remnant for those cabs@$15 sq/ft!! Once those are done I'll put up some more pix.

There are many different ways to do a wooden BS. I have seen something similar in my KD's showroom.
It's a nice look and takes the guess work out of an entire BS, but you still have to figure something out behind the range.

I did one in my butler's pantry. I really like it. (goes around the sides, and comes out as far as the uppers extend)
