Corn on the cob

...on a stick!

That's my 'assignment' for a gathering of a couple hundred chile-heads the last weekend this month. (think tailgating) My two-burner propane stove will hold a couple 4-5 gal pots and that's all the stove that I'll have. I'm going to do a practice run this afternoon or tomorrow and am going to try clarifying a lb of butter this afternoon using cheesecloth.

Ideas needed. Can I boil the corn a couple days ahead of time and put on ice? The butter for the butter pot dip will be clarified in advance. Should I cook the corn in the butter on site? The cobs will be cut in half and then skewered for cooking and serving. Any special flavorings? I'll have salt shaker, a couple diff blends black pepper grinders and several shakers of hot pepper blends to sprinkle on cobs before serving.

I won't know until a few days before event what kind and how fresh the sweet corn will be. Hopefully will be local grown and not very old.
