Help - Glass door cabinets

I chose a patterned glass for my glass door cabinets in my recent kitchen remodel. I thought that it would give the illusion of glass, but not allow the things inside to show. I was wrong. You can see all the things inside the cabinets. Is there anything I can use to allow the light to come through, but obscure what's inside?

I've seen people use something like rice paper (I think.) on the inside

But does it really bug you? Then again, I have a glass refrigerator....

You can always go to Hobby Lobby and look at their Gallery Glass for the frosted glass paint and paint the back side of the glass. That would be a shame though. I think it looks fine though. It's so pretty, and would be even prettier with the right lighting. You need better in cabinet lighting that hides behind the face frame (LED tape) or to change to glass shelves. The lighting only the top shelf is what would bug me.

Since you're going to be painting the cabinets, you might think about just replacing all the doors. Get the ones in the style you want with glass, then the rest to match with solid center panels. You could then pick a style that will have the proper edge configuration for handles. A local cabinet maker should be able to do this for you. Or check around online. There are several companies that only make cabinet doors. My BIL built his own cabinets, but bought the doors. It may or may not be within your budget, but doesn't hurt to ask and check out what's available. We're in the middle of doing this now. We had the cabinet frames stripped down and bought new doors. They should be finished next week. We decided not to have any glass doors, but they were available from the door company if we wanted to have them. Since you're painting your cabinets, you don't have to worry about the finish matching.

Try a local full-service glass store. Most will have a large number of options on display. The ones in our area have excellent selections as well as great service and advice not available in the big boxes.

I think reeded glass would be beautiful!!!! I have light colored shaker cabinets like yours, I used etched glass. I was told the same thing about fingerprints, that's why the slick side goes out. Mine look nice & aren't a problem. I paid $75 for 5 cabinets. (What's in the cabinet does show a tad) It was a local glass shop. Just call around and get a price quote for both. :0)

If you do go with paint, make it a panel that can be removed if you change your mind down the road. No need to paint directly on the backs of the cab. Have you considered tin or copper for inside the cab? The tin would match well with your hardware and the copper is close to the color you want to paint. I agree about trying a few darker pieces in the cab before doing anything. It is looking very white because the contents are light as well. If you had some dark glass pieces to coordinate with the bs, that may be the punch that is needed.

you could look at window films that are applied to the glass to make them more obscure.

Did you choose your glass inserts at the local glass shop? If not, stop by and have a look. Our local glass place is a bit of a hole in the wall, but it has a zillion samples. We actually took one of the doors with us and "previewed" the samples. They might also have suggestions on what you can do to your existing panels to get the look you want. I agree with holly's lighting suggestions, which will also help you get where you want to go.

can you get less bright bulbs-there must be something softer-those look like spotlights. It's asking for decorative stuff on the top shelf-do you have some colorful pieces to put up there: that would take the eye up and less emphasis to the lower 2/3.

You can also buy a frosted glass spray from a hardware store.
