Bacon Candy!

1 lb Bacon (not thick-cut)

1/4 cup Brown sugar

Cooking Instructions

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Slice bacon into 1/2 inch strips and dredge in brown sugar until thoroughly coated.

Crumple aluminum foil to allow for grease drainage and place it on a baking sheet. Lay out the bacon on this making sure not to overlap pieces.

Bake until crispy. Allow to cool and harden before serving.

Bacon is perhaps my favorite food in the world (besides chocolate, of course). Don't need to put anything on it at all -- just crispy bacon and I'm a happy camper.

The racoons, opossums, and squirrels here have so far neglected to send me any thank-you notes for all the fruit that I unwillingly provide for them. The best pre-emptive action for me has been to start with pruning most fruit trees so that they have a single, straight, branchless trunk for the first 3-1/2 to 4 feet. When they are mature enough to bear fruit, and the fruit become large enough to attract these rodents, I pull out the seasonal aluminum trunk cover. I buy the slit duct at Lowes big enough that it won't be out-diametered by the trunk for a bunch of years. A single wrapping of skinny wire near the top holds the springy tube closed as it stands on the ground surrounding the first several feet of trunk. If there are no nearby branches from other trees to use as bridges/ladders, the rodents will look elsewhere for vittles. The crows, woodpeckers, etc., etc. will then have the fruit to themselves.

I thought I'd ask about this since activity has been fairly recent....and I couldn't find much else about the issue. I have a problem with mulch floating away at the bottom edge of my landscaping. With rain, I get 2" of water in my yard, no matter how long it rains. But it drains very quickly. The property has alot of clay, with about 2" of soil over it. I have established shrubs in my landscaping. The house is on a slab, so I am limited in raising the bed (but that's not the problem). The prior owner used pinestraw and used a trimmer to cut a trench to provide the transition/edging. It's the outer edge of mulch that slips into the trench and floats and piles up at the end. A gallon or so end up in the yard to get thrown around by the mower. I want to maintain a simple transition from the mulch to the grass. I don't want landscape timbers. I don't want the bright green metal edging like one landscaper wanted to use. Pros around here are no help..."use pinestraw". It seems like they don't have any other solution. This spray stuff seems like exactly what I need to go around the outer edge of my beds. I'm considering retaining wall blocks 1-level high as a last resort. I'm trying to keep a clean look, so just about any physical retaining will muddy that. Any suggestions? I'll post back on this stuff if I try it out.

Ginger, you know I don't usually come over here, I hardly ever even lurk! But, somehow I did tonight and saw your post about Marlen. It really is bittersweet, I just made "Marlen's Bacon Pull Apart Bread" over the weekend and my cousin asked for the recipe and I mentioned it on the C/F the other day. Isn't it funny/unreal/wonderful how somebody who you NEVER met can touch you in a special way? (I know that you have met Marlen, but I guess I mean me!) I just got off the phone with my doctor's office and they said they DID send a report to the Neurosurgeon....BUT now I am finding out that I have to also.. drive all the way to Columbia... (65 miles east) and pick up the MRI disc personally, sign for it, and then to Lawrenceberg (52 miles southwest), and then home...(60+ miles NW)... so that will be a day spend on being a courier...(sp) !! Then the Neursurgeon will have the info needed.... Good grief...isn't modern technology wonderful.....?? (and yes I am a bit testy this am..lol ) So, I am off to make some phone calls and get this done asap... Larry said he would drive me to do all of this..... but I know he has an ulterior motive.. the man loves to shop.....Lowes, Tractor supply, Home Depot.. and yes, even WalMart...and both Columbia and Lawrenceberg have those stores.. God sure blessed me with another wonderful man in my life... so I should just count my blessings, instead of grousing about these other issues.. At least I didn't have to cook yesterday... Larry took me out to eat...and then made me a nice Latte' to sip while we sat on the front porch in the evening... Carolyn

Glazed bacon is delish..mix in a bit of chili powder or cayenne into the brown sugar for a "bite".. Devine!

I have made this several times. I love it. Never any left at a potluck either. I cut mine into bite size pieces before I bake them. Just like eating a candy.

Think this would be good with turkey bacon? I love regular bacon but we only eat turkey now. Sure sounds good though!

Yes Glenda those puffs are wonderful, I just had some a minute ago :0) I made the hard crunchy one's, the puffs and now the balls. The puff balls are lighter & airy, I just like them all but I think the regular puffs are best.
