under cabinet microwave or microwave drawer?
Comments (5)Drawer. I've been using mine for a few months. I'm 5'8"ish and don't find the height to be a problem. It's really not a bend to get in it, maybe a small lean when picking up something heavy and hot. I'm easily annoyed, but this movement doesn't bother me at all. I like being able to look straight down on my food or bev rather than peering up and in on my toes. I have the Sharp drawer that opens/closes with push buttons or with a gentle tug/push to get the door started. I haven't spilled anything in it with either method. The closing is fairly gentle so as not to cause spillage. Initially, I resisted the idea of the drawer and couldn't figure out the appeal. Now that I'm using it, I really like it. I bought mine as a refurb from a reputable ebay seller. Saved hundreds!...See MoreInstall OTR microwave without upper cabinets
Comments (3)my experience with an OTR microwave is this: I removed my OTR M/W during a kitchen renovation but planned to keep it since it was fairly new, an Advantium 120 and I loved it but was not installing it again as an OTR, just going to use on a cart as a freestanding microwave I am assuming that all otr m/w's are the same as mine: the top is unfinished b/c in a normal application you did not see the top, it is installed to the bottom of the cabs above So that could be an aesthetic problem if 4" is exposed Do you know a good finish carpenter that could custom make your shelf to extend over this section and then jut back to the depth you had planned? You may not necessarily see the top from below but if you have a stairway near by,etc. it may be visible. Also the cord on mine comes out of the top so you would have a gap btwn the top of the m/w and the bottom of the shelf to allow for the cord to run to the back of the wall outlet and where would the outlet be placed? just what my experience has been Another thought; box in the m/w with similar material to the shelves creating it's own shelf below the shelf...See MoreWall oven microwave combo OR range with oven + under cabinet microwave
Comments (15)We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen....See Moredrawer microwave or microwave on shelf next to refrigerator .
Comments (16)I have a Sharp microwave drawer with a tilt out panel and so far it has given me no trouble - in use since 2018. It's very convenient to use. Why specifically would the drawer be easier to use. My friend has a relatively large kitchen and her microwave is in a large "cubby". She had the carpenter create a pull out shelf so there is a convenient landing spot for food being taken out or put in. I have a small kitchen and so having the microwave drawer under the wall oven was the most functional location. No place on the counter and no place to put t on a "shelf" or cubby as it would have eaten up more space than as a drawer....See Moreannkathryn
