Cabin Fever anyone?

Is it just me? I'm about to go nuts. There may not be any snow here but its cold! I don't feel like doing anything and tired of cooking & cleaning. Does this happen to any of you or have I just hit a big slump? I want out of here!!!

Carolyn, Why don't laelias bloom for you? but catts bloom for you, right? I will def. check out those SA vendors per your suggestion, thanks... I've been so bad, all your talks about "other plants" make me feel a little guilty! I don't "look" at anything except for orchids now... I've been trying to stop myself for hitting that "submit" button at growers' sites. I kept telling myself this is my first winter with the 'chids, let's see if I could get thru without a problem... but if CJ can have a "winter fix", then we all deserve to have at least a fix or two, right??? Oh, Michigoose, I would go back to Trader Joe's, look at it this way, you know how lucky you are to be able to buy orchids at local stores? I certainly don't get that luxury... lol...

grrrrrrr...............cabin fever? I can be pretty flexible with weather patterns, but like company or fish, they start to stink after three days. This last system seems as if it has gone on forever, with no real end in sight. It's eight stinking degrees out there right now, and I'm actually thrilled because at least the sun is shining. It's a good thing schools teach negative numbers, because it was minus five when I got up. My car doors were frozen shut this morning. Not the lock, the whole door. No, no ice but just that cold. The transmission didn't want to shift, either. My husband is actually telling me how to dress now to go outside, like I am a toddler. He has entrirely too much time on his hands, LOL, or cabin fever.

That's my problem as well. I also do a lot of vegetables, and we finally decided to eat healthy (we'll see how long it's going to last, hope untill the harvest), so I have order yet again tons of different greens. No trip to any story that carries seeds is without some purchase. But I'm seriously "gardening" right now in my zone 5b (Chicago subs). I have some greens and lettuce going in my kitchen window hopping to put them soon into a hoop house. Yet, my husband has to finish it. I planted peas outside (!!!) in a large container - now under the snow. Also, last week, I planted peas in containers that I keep in my screen porch. Yesterday, I sowed lettuce, radish and spinach in containers on the screen porch. My screen porch is becoming my green house. Of course, still ws'ing, almost 100 large, fat milk jags outside. I'm still new in this, I'm in my third year, but my beds are already full. Time to make some more....

1. If you have a cat or two, grow some grass seeds. 2. Sow any seeds. Put on top of refrigerator. Then on the window. They may get lanky but you are growing something. 3. If you can, find a bus trip to Canada Blooms & book passage! 4. Get out your pots early & sterilize them. 5. Plan a new garden bed with shrubs & perennials. Also plan what annuals you'd put in between while the perennials get established. 6. Check out your bargain shops & box stores for possible garden needs. 7. Find a nursery that is open all year round & enjoy the atmosphere. 8. Play the memory game of what is actually in your garden. Write down all that you can remember & if you can use Latin names for each species. 9 Check out a large second hand book store for a cheap book on gardening. sam

Count me in for sure. We don't have snow, but we still can't get out an do the things we are usually able to do in winter here in Florida.This is the time of year we should be outside working in our yards or having picnics but instead, we've been running 20 degrees below normal since the first of the year--and 20 degrees is a LOT!

I'm so tired of being cold.
Tending to stay in bed and not go to water.
Just the thought of getting out in the cold, even though the water is warm, and bubble covers the pool, IT'S TOO COLD!

No, I never get cabin fever, too much to do and want to get done.

Nope.

Got a car (with extra clothing, sleeping bag, etc. in case of trouble).

And a phone.

With friends.

Who could ask for anything more?

One of these days ... when old age creeps up and you become less mobile ... you may look back at such times with yearning.

When someone asked another person whether they had a disability and they'd replied, "No" ...

... a person with disability sitting nearby who'd heard the interplay remarked, "Not yet!".

I'm busy getting all my inside stuff caught up. When I FEEL spring, I want to be ready to hit the great outdoors!
I also started a couple new craft projects and want to get them done before it is time to spend the many hours in my gardens.
It is just around the corner for you JoAnn...hang in there!

I've been eating too much, too, but except for my strong dislike of winter driving I've been enjoying winter more than I have in some time. I credit rug hooking. It's a seasonal craft (who wants to handle wool in summer?), and I love doing it. I also have great affection for my woodstove.

If you don't knit or crochet, this might be a good time to start.

I'm painting a lot and doing either late fall housecleaning or early spring housecleaning. I don't care if the snow leaves or it warms up here in IN until I am all finished. I'd like to find a little time to do some wintersowing later this week, as well as some baking.

I was out and about Sunday and got everything picked up that I could possibly want or need for the next couple of weeks.

Oh yeah. And we are out of school this week for a winter break (our alternative calendar, I do like it). It is too cold to be outside very long, so the kids are getting on each other's nerves. My parents will be here in a couple days, that will help. And tomorrow those kids will be so busy helping clean house they won't be bored. ;o)

It's chilly and windy here in FL. I don't want to garden, but I've been riding my motorcyle. Leather jacket and chaps, longjohns and gloves. The wind in my hair and the sun on my face. I love it!

Nope, I love staying home. I go in town about once a week and that is enough for me. Hate going out in the cold....

I have been sewing for my 5 grandaughters. They all have birthdays in the next 5 weeks...
