I'll be away from my computer for the next few days. Going on a field trip with one of my DGDs. I expect everybody to maintain a sense of decorum while I'm gone.....(snort)

Working and being around all sorts of people from all sections of your community or city, kept your immune system on it's toes. It's a marvelous system. You were coming into a constant stream of germs everyday. Once you retire and see only a few people, it gets a little lazy so that when you do bump into something from outside your usual environment, it hits you hard. Of course, we are getting older and our immune systems are not as good as they once were. That makes a difference too. When I first started babysitting for children that live on the other side of town, I usually got a sore throat and/or a cold. I NEVER get one otherwise. I think it must be that they were bringing home germs that they are used to but were new to me. Now, several months later, I seem to have gotten used to them too.

I teach college level classes and I always have to do a session on "evaluating information." I am always dumbfounded when most of my students can't figure out how to click on the "About" tab of a Web site to find out who sponsors it, or read a URL, or find the author of an article, the staff of a political news site or non-profit, etc. Often the sponsors of the Web site are listed right up at the top of the page and yet many of my students don't even bother to look at that part or read it. let alone figure out what it all means. The first question to ask is "Who is writing this and what are their qualifications and editorial policies." For starters, if it is not abundantly clear on the Web site the answers to these questions, then it is not a "good" source. Then, take a few minutes to ponder the answers and that will help you immensely in understanding what you are reading. Then check the DATE. I have had friends posting their outrage about incidents they think just happened and they happened six years ago! I can't be credibly impressed by your outrage if it totally passed you by on your care meter when it actually happened. I have found though, that it is a little more difficult to spot "news" sources that have heavily edited quotes or pasted them together to give them a different meaning than the person speaking them did. If something sounds a little skewed to me I seek out the whole transcript of what the person said, and that takes a little more sophisticated Internet searching skill, which is not taught in schools either. For example, and article like, "The Pope Endorses Donald Trump" or "The Pope Criticizes Donald Trump" are usually high on speculation and low on actual information from the Pope. But I have been impressed when I have actually sought out the entire speech that the Pope made. It is usually quite nuanced, addressing matters of Catholic spirituality, and what the other articles are quoting are random snippets of words pieced together. This trend really pisses me off, very unethical and to my way of thinking, a result of very poor schooling on ethical standards for presenting information.

Viburnum leaf beetles are around in New England, but whether they eat a particular Viburnum depends on the Viburnum species. They prefer some more than others, and some of mine are untouched while V. dentatum Blue Muffin was shovel pruned because it always looked moth eaten. But they wouldn’t be damaging your Spiraeas, just perhaps the Viburnums. You have my sympathies. The shrubs should recover since they still have a lot,of leaf area.

She's the most fascinating person I've met in a long time. I'm deeply hurt.🤣 Yeah, no. Just the idea of diving wrecks or caves, anything where the surface is obstructed, literally makes my heart race. My plan is to stay within 20-30 feet of the surface at all times and not get cute.

Welcome back Greta. I'll be glad to let you know what happened while you were gone. Everyone at KT misbehaved, that is except for me. I have a feeling they will tell you a different story, but you must believe me. My halo is shining and their little devil horns are glowing like embers.

Did you have a good time? Did you take any pictures? Do you need a tranquilizer or a drink and a long nap? Let us know what all you did and where you went.

Went with (almost!) twelve year old DGD on a field trip to Dauphin Island, AL with her sixth grade class. The kids spent two days at the Sea Lab and the other "grownups" and I cooked breakfast every morning and did endless loads of laundry! LOL I also walked on the beach BY MYSELF for an hour and a half on Wednesday and two hours on Thursday and it was WONDERFUL!! Cold and windy, but wonderful! We went to the mall the first night and did a little shopping. The second night we ate seafood at a place called Barnacle Bills and the third night we ate grilled burgers and dogs and let the kids swim in the indoor pool. Of course, some of the crazier kids (mine included...) had to go take a dip in the outdoor pool. I told her that if I brought her home sick she was on her own! LOL

Looong bus trip there and back but we had a Coach and I had a restroom! LOL

Thanks for gettin' me up to speed, mscsippy. That's just about what I figured. (counting big bucks that Linda gave me as bribe $$ to believe her....)
