Yup. That's why I said they were obscure. lol

"Flipped' reminded me of the old TV series "The Wonder Years", where the boy mooned over his neighbor, Winnie. The movie has the reverse angle. Rare today to find a movie the whole family could watch.

I personally love tragic stories, especially star crossed lovers. The sadder the better..lol. Beautiful happy stories are nice but we always remember the sad ones the most. It is perhaps in many ways cathartic. I have been working on a series of paintings that depict tragic couples in world history eg Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, Deidre and Naoise etc. They are still in the initial stages. Having said that, I actually didn't realize that Jude is a man. I always thought it would be a woman for some reason. I will try to read this book in the future. Overall, I think it is proper to have roses named after people or characters. For me it adds a certain depth to the rose. Thanks True blue, I will remember their stories when I do get a chance to paint them one day.

'Splain me' about streaming movies

I'm biting the bullet and looking for a new receiver with at least six HDMI 'ports'. I don't think we will be 'streaming' anything unless the offerings improve for our 'demographic'. LOL Today AT&T emailed me, touting their "U-Verse" -- which sounds like it would replace the DirecTV HD-DVR they already provide us, bundled with landline and internet. The promo seems aimed at people who need 24/7 'connectivity' via hand helds...or music. I doubt they have any wider selection movies on offer than what I saw on Amazon and Netflix. Any DVD's we get from the library that are longer than a movie have two-week check-outs. We're in town a couple times a week anyway, so detouring a block to the library is easy. We still sometimes check out 'real' books, too. LOL

Thank you to everyone who took the time to weigh in and let us know how you de-stress! Being the child of older parents and a very shy youngster, my go-to has always been reading. Seems like Earl Grey/Lady Grey are popular hot teas... Marilyn_c I've seen the pics of your gorgeous horses & "mools"...I bet they don't give you much spare time:) Pink...I'd be glad to share the recipe...got it off of the web some time ago and it reminds me of the Pepperidge Farm Molasses Crisps, which I can't find any more & loved. Molasses Crisps 1 and 1/2 sticks softened butter 1/2 cup white or brown sugar 1 egg 1/2 cup robust molasses 2 and 1/4 cups Bisquick generous teaspoons of cloves and ginger several teaspoons of cinnamon Cream butter. Add sugar, molasses and egg--stir well to combine. Add in dry ingredients and chill dough for several hours. Roll into balls & then squash flat with greased juice glass or similar on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-13 min. Chisue---I do read the Buying and Selling Forum. That's actually how I found the KT after stumbling onto the Gardenweb about 7 or 8 years ago after we first started thinking about moving. There are certainly some interesting stories there too!

I went with your positive reviews of "Doris" and saw it a few days ago. It was really good. Sad, funny, poignant. It had some great moments and Sally Field was excellent. Next I'll see the Greek Wedding on Monday. Tickets are $6 on Monday. My two nieces saw Greek Wedding last night and they loved it. I'm amazed to find two movies that are any good, so thanks for all the reviews!!

Netflix has all four of them. I added "Flipped" and "A Dog Year" to my list. Thanks chisue. Those both appealed to me.

I'm going to the movie theater today at 1:30pm to see the new movie, "The Eagle". It's based on Rosemary Sutcliff's series of historical novels "The Eagle of the Ninth" set in ancient Roman Britain, written in the 60's 70's?. I read the books, not expecting the movie to do them justice but curious.

Hoping they don't do a "300" imitation, but expect some violence and gore for the teen set.

we enjoyed a recent one on showtime called "our family wedding"...sort of a latino/af-am version of "guess who's coming to dinner", only very funny...forest whittaker stars...

I forgot that not *everyone* here knows DH and I have "Teatime Matinee" many afternoons. We have tea and cookies and watch a DVD. (Yes, we even do that here on Maui!)
