3' or 4' pull for 18' drawer? And 1 or 2 pulls for 26.5' drawer?
Comments (12)We have 2 pulls on the cabs that are 30 or wider and 1 pull on everything else. I find that with the smooth operation of our cabs that having 2 pulls is nice. I can reach a pull from either side of the drawer and never use 2 pulls at the same time. It helps if you have a few people in the kitchen at the same time, esp for the 36" wide drawers. I also like the double pull look better on the wide and deep drawers. Most don't do a 4 stack of drawers that wide, so I am not sure how a single pull would work in that instance. These are 30" wide drawers with 2 pulls. I can't picture them with only 1. Notice that neither pull is very far from the center:...See MoreQuestion for MW Drawer and Dish Drawer Owners
Comments (10)Hi erikanh, our kitchen in the "in progress" section of the fkb. DH is making some of our lighting fixtures and I refuse to call it done until they are up---so we've been at 95/98% for 3+ years (our cabinets were installed March-June 2005). Good thing we have classic cabinets. Otherwise the kitchen would probably be hopelessly out of date by the time I consider it "done". I think the FKB link brings you to my photobucket album which is not at all organized and often has multiple shots of one view---not really ready for prime time. layout and top wall: left side of top wall (toward eating area) and right side (toward mudroom) with baking center: Right wall: bottom wall: Left Wall from kitchen side and then back from dining room side (hutch doors are a pass through) The cabinet lines ended up looking squiggly when I shrunk the photos. Please be assured that our cabinets are really nice and straight : ) I know what it's like to fall in love with cabinetry. I first scoped out cabinets in a couple of local lumber yards in the early 90's. There was just one line of cabinet I really really liked and I put some literature in a folder. More than a decade passed and I checked out cabinets again in 2004. I was introduced to CP by a family member. I loved them and compared to some bathroom cabinets we had made by a cabinetmaker friend they seemed like a good value. After ordering the cabinets I found my old folder from 1991 and the cabinets I had loved then were CP! Obviously their sales method had changed (no longer in lumberyard kitchen showrooms) but my heart held steady without me knowing it. Lucky thing we waited so long because we're at a different point in our lives where we're willing to spend money on the infrastructure of a house we hope to still be living in in 40 years. Comments (19)Thanks everyone for the kind words! (Sorry I just saw all of these responses) ardcp, the cabinets are Koch Cabinets (which is online), expres, birch in brandy stain, the least expensive style they had (which we happened to like!). The countertops are Wilsonart Laminate Milano Quartz. One of my regrets is getting the "blind" edge--I wish I would have gotten the beveled or curved edge, and there's a long story why we couldn't. It's a bit sharp in the corners, which is uncomfortable for your forearms sitting at the bar, and the non-radius corners look a bit dangerous. I would highly recommend splurging on undercabinet lighting, unless you've got a lot more lighting than we have. We did LED tape lights. We feel like the general lighting is pretty good, and we'd probably be okay without it, but boy is it nice to have the task lighting under each cab. As I've mentioned, I don't care much for the over cabinet lighting except as mood lighting when it's otherwise completely dark. I'll snap a pic of the above cabinet lighting as soon as we clean our kitchen again. LL, glad you saw this!! I've been trying to find the time to post about the rest of the house. I've got the pictures taken, and although I don't find the rest quite as interesting as we didn't modify it all that much, I will be sure to post in the Building a Home section. At least we can show off the fireplace that I had the builders beef up and our through-the-wall dog door! Yes, our desk really gets tons of use, and I don't see that changing as our kids do more and more. I like that there is a specific spot for my son to have his computer time, even on the ipad....See MoreFive piece drawer fronts AND slab drawer fronts
Comments (41)Ask to see a spec sheet on the drawer fronts. If you're going with a flat panel door, the taller drawer fronts may be a raised panel, which holds up better against the stress on a large drawer front. Custom cabinet makers will use suppliers like Conestoga for doors and drawer fronts. They can make them and ship them, faster, cheaper and better than you can in most shops. Ask him to show you an example of a door and a 5-piece drawer front. Finish is also important, find out about that before you put down any money. A clean room and conversion varnish is imperative. And insist on a pay schedule that's 30% upfront, 30% right before delivery and %40 upon completion. Two of the nightmares that show up on this forum are bad finish on a custom cabinet and the contractor's been paid but won't finish the installation or fix a problem....See MoreAnn Scheley
