Drywall as Glass Tile Substrate?

hgluckman

Our drywallers showed up (a day early) to begin work yesterday. They have put up what I believe is normal drywall in the area of our backsplash. We are going to be using 6 x 6 glass tiles (about 1/4" thick) for most of the backsplash with some mosaics and liners as a deco.

Is drywall the appropriate backing for glass tile? We still have time to fix this if it isn't. Right now, our GC is kind of saying just go with the flow, and I'm not sure if that's the right thing.

Thanks in advance for your help!
