Talk about lots of snow

My DD just called. Her DH had just got off the phone with some friends that moved to Idaho. DD and her DH had talked about moving over by their friends. They have 8 feet of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. They can walk right up to their roof. Their kids are having a ball jumping off the roof into the snow. They have 48-50 inches of snow on their roof that Mark is trying to deal with. Their neighbor's garage collapsed under the weight of the snow. They are having to get a demolition crew out there to dig them out. All their vehicles and tractor are in the garage. So far all they can tell is that their truck is totaled. Mark has a bulldozer he is using to keep their driveway clear. They live in the country with a long driveway. I asked DD how soon they are going to move. Would you believe she has changed her mind. LOL Said she doesn't want to live anywhere they get 8' of snow.

OMG! Of course I do not know where your DD's friend live in Idaho but I did a weather search for
Boise, ID and this is what I found:

contact you local soil conservation district.. in the white pages under US GVMT ..... they sell plants made for your area.. for your climate.. for your soil ... in bulk .. at cheap prices ... natives are the way to go .... a diverse planting is recommended instead of a single cultivar ... good luck ken

True_blue, 'John Davis' will bloom again on new wood, though the second "flush" generally isn't very significant. In order to climb, this rose NEEDS deeply dug fertile soil and feeding, otherwise you'll just end up with a shrub, but an attractive one at that. 'JD' can take zone 3 cold, but the biggest challenge is dealing with winter desiccation drying up the stems. Alberta (central Alberta included) will at times experience amazingly BALMY winter temps and the reflected heat from buildings will only further intensify and desiccate this rose. So, I water deeply prior to freeze up and attempt to lean 'JD' away from the house ... it's a challenge to get almost any rose to climb in our cold prairie climate. 'Olds Collage Rose' looks especially nice, thanks for posting vstapes :)

Goose53, I'm in Lorain Cty. We don't get much lake effect where we are, usually, it usually goes a bit farther east of us. Last night, radar showed the snow coming straight south. They are saying another 6-10" tonight. I don't know what our total is for the year. I haven't paid any attention. There was 8.5 inches in the driveway last week when we got it. There is probably close to 2 feet in the yard. Stacy and Glenda, come on up! I'll let you play in the snow, then let you put your wet clothes in my dryer so you can go back out and play again. When I talk alot I say alot of nothing (chatter.) When I want to really say 'something' worthwhile, I try to keep it to a profound sentence or two. I'm in Coeur d'Alene and I'm guessing betty's DD's friends are up this way. My car was buried for two weeks. Larry finally dug me out Friday. Saturday I was driving down the alley, hit some snow and the back end of my car slid right into a dumpster and broke out my passenger side window. Waiting for the window guy now. I need to get it fixed before the next big storm moves in tomorrow. I'm so sick of this I could scream. Or cry. Actually, I did both Saturday when my window busted out.

Angelaid, yes they are. They are up by Spirit Lake. DD talked with her yesterday and it was still snowing. Sorry about your car window. It sounds like you are getting about as much as they are. Here in Wa state our passes have been really getting hammered. The Spokane area really got hit also. I guess the same storm you got.

I thought it only snowed like that where Casey lived in Newfoundland. Maybe Alaska or the North Pole. Yikes!!! There goes the insurance premiums again and the cost of building materials. It's always something to see what else Mother Nature has in store.

We have another severe storm warning for today and tomorrow. Snow is already coming down.
Window guy said my door frame is bent so bad, he's not sure he can get a window in there.
Somebody shoot me....
