Let's talk about those darn rose slugs
Comments (11)There isn't any way around it, when you spray something to kill something, you're going to kill something else. Pyrethrins aren't any less toxic to bees and is likely more so to other beneficials than Spinosad. For me, the Spinosad makes more sense because I have less slug and far more leaf miner to deal with. And, I just like the idea of it being bacterial than chemical. According to Oregon State University, pyrethrins are toxic to honey bees. If you were to spray at dusk when bee activity is less, you'll probably affect fewer of them, mostly those who try to spend the night in your rose flowers. They're the culprits for my bee stings. They always happen when deadheading and it's always due to my grabbing the bloom to be cut and awakening the sleeping bee. Oregon State says: Pyrethrins are highly toxic to fish and tadpoles. They affect their skin touch receptors and balance organs (4). Pyrethrins are toxic to beneficial insect (such as honeybees) and many aquatic invertebrates (4). Pyrethrins are low in toxicity to humans, other mammals, and birds (4). So, even though they're not as toxic as many others, they do have toxicity to fish, tadpoles and bees, like everything else does. Comments (8)Looking quite festive at your house! We got the cold today, in the 20's after being 69 on Wed!!! The mountains got some snow, but only a few flakes here that melted right away. Love the vignette on the old window (?) and Mr. Crooked Nose is tooo cute! I am also envious of your photography skills, but sure do enjoy your posts! You have been very busy and it shows. Comments (4)It is a chilly 41 degrees here in Houston, Texas right now! Our high is projected to be 53 degrees. It's been in the 50's for a week now, and that is unseasonably cool for us. Lots of clouds, too...we're missing the sunshine!...See MoreLets Talk About Bleach Baby, Lets Talk About You And ...
Comments (64)Mich, I've seen that in the stores and wondered about it. Some detergents don't have enzymes, I stear clear most of the time, however not every load is tragic, so not every load needs enzymes. If there's not a bunch of stains and the clothes just have the normal dust and body oils, that bottle of All probably does a nice job on darks and colors. I'm a powder fan but lately I've been enjoying some liquids, lol. Actually I have found liquids without enzymes make my sheets feel very smooth, I've been using a new boutique one I've run across, I'm not sure yet though if its the lack of enzymes or because its a liquid, but they do feel better I'll send a pic of it in a sec....See Moretrue_blue
