Okay, since my kids were home sick today I did a lot of poking around and found coasters on Shutterfly that you can get photos printed on. I did this ages ago, but at the time, you had to get a set of 4, all with the same photo. But now, you can get 4 different photos. So I ordered 24 coasters all with different pics of DH! From toddler age til now. It was fun to do! I can put one at each place at the table. I may still do the M&Ms because I think they're great -- just have to see how my budget looks later. hhireno, thanks for the idea -- I did put "Last call for 49" on the invitation -- which I also ordered from Shutterfly. I know I'm a little crazy ordering this stuff so early but I have to space out the purchases so he doesn't get suspicious...

Where are all the postings from other people? Okay, I have another idea... Send him on a Scavenger Hunt the day of the party. It will get him out of your hair for a while and give him something to do. You will have to do some work to put this together. If you live in a small town it will be easier for you as the shop owners will probably know you and will help you out. Before the party, make up clues to send him to each pre-arranged location and eventually back to wherever his party will take place. If he is leaving from home give him a beautifully wrapped box with the first clue in it. The first clue will lead him to his favorite garden shop where he will find his next clue near his favoite flower, tree or some garden tool he has been drooling over. Have one of his friends meet him in the row with the flower, tree or tool he is looking for to present him with his small gift (the favorite flower etc.) and give him the next clue. That friend can join him in figuring out the next clue that will lead him to his next favorite place. Give him a funny word to say to someone from the store who is aware of the game you are playing. That person will give him 2 clues one to find his gift in the store and the second to his next location. The next clue will lead him to a coffee shop where a few of his buddies will be waiting to have coffee with him. They will buy him a coffee and each give him a piece of the clue which will lead him to the next destination. All the friends will join him to the next location, perhaps his fav. place for lunch where he will meet more friends for a light lunch and more clues. Some of the gifts can be pre-arranged to be gag gifts given at lunch or coffee. You know what he likes so you can plan his destinations and gifts. The final destination will be where his party will be held and the rest of his friends will be there to join in on the fun. You can meet him with a stop watch telling him if he wasn't as old as dirt he would have figured out the clues faster and been home hours ago. The rest of the party can have the garden theme but how about a ho-down (don't know if this is spelled correctly) but you get the idea. Have all the things you mentioned along with a big bowl filled with water and apples for dunking for apples, hire a Caller and have square dancing if you have the room or someone to do line dancing and other (I'm going to have to call it country dancing because the name escapes me right now). You can also rent a floor to lay down in yr. yard if you don't have a deck or patio to dance on. Okay, I'm done for the night. If I think of something else I will post again. Eyerish PS sorry if I spelled anything wrong, I need Spell Check!

Been thinking about the golf themed birthday party, here's somethings I remember from looking at some of the sites and some others I came up with: 1) Cover the table with a green paper or plastic cover (for that grass effect); 2) Find a picture of the boyfriend playing golf, find some old golf magazines, etc. and cut out pictures of famous players. Go to a photocopy store, cut, paste & photocopy the picture(s) of the boyfriend & famous players so it appears he had been playing golf with them. You could do individual pictures or make one large poster board with several of them on it; 3) Fill a jar with golf tees and have the guests guess how many are in the jar and give a prize for the closest guess; 4) Make flags like they use in the holes (large or small) maybe made with tooth picks to be used in the food; 5) Find some of those candle holders you find at craft stores where you can put a candle in the center of the holder and then fill the outer rim with golf balls or golf tees; 6) Saw a miniture golf bag cooler on one of the sites I mentioned, could use that as a centerpiece. Fill it part of the way with tissue paper then use some of that green Easter grass and place some golf balls on top of that and around the bottom of the bag; 7) Could have your local grocery store or bakery make a golf themed cake; 8) Get a couple of those topiary forms from the craft store, maybe one that already is set up in a pot, then hot glue golf balls on the top, fill the pot with that Easter grass, tie a couple of green and white ribbons on it. Hope some of these ideas help. What ever you deceide on hope you have fun and your party is a success!!

I've been pondering this because I don't have boys and know much about them. But I do know that ten is about the age that boy scouts start teaching knife safety. Local woodworking/whittling groups often provide the training and labor (one on one) to teach whittling. The gift at the end of the party are small pocket knives (I've seen cheap ones at the dollar store and nice ones for a dollar at flea markets/antique stores). The bags could include small pieces of throwaway wood or branches for them to whittle. You could get some safety/whittling information off the internet. If you do it yourself, try to have one adult per child or have some kids watch while others do. Start by making paper knives and teaching how to open safely. They could practice cutting food by preparing their lunch (carrot sticks, etc..) as well. Give the knife to the PARENT at the end of the party and ask them to keep the knives and use them WITH their child. The gift bag could be a hobo bag (bandanna on a stick). The bandanna could be made out of leftover fabric or an old dress. You could make a fire and let them cook out. Not many kids get to go camping or learn camping skills so it would be met with excitement.
