Dan, I actually take the cold-frames off every day to give the plants direct exposure to the sun. One could slant the top if you were leaving them on full time, but remember, those plants on that side of the 'Tainer will lose headroom. Regarding painting the sides, the Rubbermaids are somewhat translucent, and "light" does enter through the LDPE material, albeit at a reduced intensity. I think painting the insides would be counterproductive, as the paint would actually block out the light that comes through the LDPE currently. Raybo

Rita, Boy do I ever wish that the daylilies came in those shades! You never know what the future will bring though! ETOSHA is a favorite of mine (although I say that about half of my blooms I think!) It is not only pretty, but the bloom is 6+ inches. It is usually darker in color, but it is one of those "washed out" ones that I grow...warmer weather growers have a lot more color but I like my version better!

The brown peppers are called Congo Chocolate (C. chinense) the red ones are Congo Red(C. chinense). The Congo Red plant has green stems, green leaves, and white flowers. The plant produces good yields of 2" long by 1 ½" wide wrinkled hot peppers. Peppers are very hot and turn from green, to orange, to red when mature. The Congo Brown plant has green stems, green leaves, and white flowers. The plant produces good yields of 2" long by 1 ½" wide wrinkled hot peppers and the peppers are extremely hot and turn from green, to light brown, to chocolate brown when mature.

well, I won my CATEGORY ($10K) . . . but a friendly rival (who I topped) from the 2003 contest, beat me this time for the $50K Grand Prize. The good news is I can try to go back one more time :)

So........what's Guy like "in person"??
I picked him to win the first competition and catch his show every once in awhile. He seems like lots of fun...a little 'loud', but fun.

Congrats on your win and it's awesome to see pics!

The pictures are really cool. You look great. I also wonder about what Guy is like in real life. He seems like a nice guy all the way around.

I was thoroughly surprised by Guy; my perceptions of him were way off due to his 'goofball' demeanor on the FN. You can tell he's very warm, personable and funny, but he was also super intelligent, passionate about his industry and a fantastic speaker. He was a great choice for an emcee ~ a real pro. I've always been horrible in front of the camera; obviously it's something he was destined for :)

By the way, they made us wear hats (yuck), but I guess 'a good thing' to keep stray hairs out of the food going to the judges. But see that big fuzzy, furry boom thing? They held it 1 inch above my simmering pan of au jus forEVER . . . I kept checking to see if any fur-fibers dropped into it, LOL!

Too cool!! So,is this going to be on one of the food networks specials?? If it is let us know when.

Guy was down here in my neck of the woods last month taping a show at one of the local diners that I've eaten at more than once. I've yet to find out when it is suppose to air on his show Diners, Drive Inns, and Dives.

This place made Gourmet last year for the best chicken fried steak on 66.

I don't know when it will air on FN . . . I think it usually winds up being about 6 months. I'm dreading it, actually, because I'm a very NONcompetitive cook/contester, and when they tried to goad me about the rivalry thing, I just laughed and ignored it. Not so with the GP winner though . . . I think she may have really trashed me :(

That looks like a great time, Pixi! So glad you won your category, that's a pretty good chunk-o-change!

I hope the GP winner didn't trash you, that would be so terribly unsportsmanlike.

Sorry, I must have missed it. I was on vacation so this must have been slipped past me. That's wonderful, so happy for you.
