Another 6 in 1 Convert

Jessica is definitely right. And so is Lori. And everyone else. Both Lori and Jessica have been trying to get me to try 6 in 1 tomatoes for a long time. I was really hesitant to give them a try because by the description I expected them to taste like "tomato paste". I really, really dislike tomato paste. I never use it in any pasta or pizza sauces. I do though keep a tube of it in the fridge and will add a teaspoon or two to a pot roast or other "brown" sauce. Just a touch will enhance a sauce without adding the tomato paste flavour that I so dislike.

It was easy to resist the pressure since I couldn't find them here. Until now. I finally found a can of 6 in 1 tomatoes at my favourite little Mediterranean shop in Victoria. Last night I made my pizza sauce using these tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavour. They didn't taste at all like the dreaded tomato paste. Just a very rich tomato flavour. And not overly sweet. And the textue was perfect for my uncooked sauce.

So thank you Jessica and Lori. I'll definitely buy them again. I wouldn't use them in my fresh or quick cooked tomato sauce but they will be perfect for longer simmered tomato meat sauces.

And the price wasn't bad either. Based on what they sell for in the US I was expecting them to be very expensive here. I paid $2.79 for the can. $2.79 well spent. I'll be ordering a case.

In order to let the tomato flavour shine, my pizza last night was made with just sauce seasoned with fresh garlic and herbs and Bocconcini (fresh style mozzarella).
