Removing Paint from Ceiling tongue/Groove:Sandblast??

Ok, we are gutting an old cottage that is approx. 45 yr old. The ceiling in the main room has a tongue & groove bead board that we would really like to keep.

Paint is peeling in some sections, others have been scrapped and repaint over the years. We really don't want to remove each piece and have it milled, rather strip it where it is or the other alternative is to "drywall" over it.

I have been researching sandblasting and coming across a number of different thoughts. In mine mind this is really the only way to go. Also read about different materials to use.

Can someone please share there experiences with something like this, what have they used, I've heard walnut shell blasting material is best.

Thanks in advance for the help
