I "dabble" at gardening, and I'm open to any suggestions.

When my dog died, I put a rock at the spot he died and wrote on it with white permanent paint. That was 4 years ago and I can still read my writing.

I too lost my almost 19 year old cat, Molly this past Thursday. It has been very strange to get up in the morning and not go to feed her and we all miss her in the evening sitting in our laps. I am thinking of getting a flat paver and putting her name on it somehow.

You have my most sincere sympathy and empathy. I know only too well the pain of losing a pet.

A couple of years ago when I lost a rabbit I had her cremated, then buried her ashes in the garden. I planted a bleeding heart bush over her and it blooms beautifully every spring. I liked the idea that it is a "bleeding heart".

I have lost 2 more since then (a 19 year old cat and a 12 year old cat) and my heart is still broken, although I have several more beloved ones still with me. I have yet to do anything with their ashes, not because I don't care but because I want it to be special.

tkaye....I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about being brokenhearted. I lost my 18 yr old Baby in December. Strange, I keep seeing these shadows around the APT that I've never seen before. Like I said we live in an APT, so had to have her cremated and couldn't afford the added cost of getting her ashes back. I wish there was a place where she is resting that I could visit. As for a memorial, I think a paver painted with their names and special dates painted on along with some pretty flowers and vines painted on. It doesn't have to be fancy, just from your heart, ((((HUGS)))Dottie

You could use exterior lacquer or wood sealant on the rock to protect any writing or pictures.

I have a corner in the back yard that has a small metal cat marker on it. the yard people know that is where my furbabies are.

Dotmom, I know what you mean about shadows - I keep seeing those too.

We got a stone for each of our departed pets and placed them in a path to the front door. Perhaps something like this would work for you?

I am so sorry for your loss...having lost a few pets in the last few years I know all too well how your feeling...When our first collie died I just couldn't stand the thought of burying her and so had her cremated...and will do the same with our remaining pets...Her ashes sit in a box on top of a curio cabinet full of collie figures I've collected...It has her picture on the top...

As for your furbabes...I think a round stepping stone with their names and dates and maybe a picture that you could cover with mar varnish...it's a strong outside varnish that is meant to hold up under weather conditions...or if you're near a Petsmart...they have several things to purchase for your pets grave...

Joanne's fabrics has a mosaic stone kit for under $20, that you can make a personalized stone with. It is very easy to do. We have one here in our yard, and I have made several others for friends over the years.

What about a plaque (to hang) or a stepping stone that says "Cats leave paw prints on your heart" along with their names. I put a link to a similar stepping stone below. These are fairly pricy but I think you could make something very similar.

I haven't forgotten I just cant figure out a way to describe what I am talking about. I spent hours last night looking for something that resembles the materials needed. I do have a picture on my phone, but its not very good. I will try to see if I can figure out how to put it on the computer.
My Bear has bone cancer, so I have been thinking alot about preparing for his passing.
Anyway, I was at Kmart last weekend, they had the cutest little "area" set up...When I saw it my heart stopped and tears came to my eyes..I knew that this is what I would do for Bear's final Place. Ok just crying thinking about it..

Garden "bricks" not the brick shaped but the ones that are wider..This display took 9 and laid them on the bottom row, then moved in placed 8, next level 7, next level 6 and so on..until only 1 brick was on top. On each level there was a room on the end..They had garden birds. You could use fewer bricks to make it smaller..Anyway, in the front they had it lined with landscaping concrete scalloped bricks..Mulch was between the wall and the front. They had little gnomes sitting in it along with a water feature and a bird bath. One of the stones would be wonderful with it.I think I will use flower pots instead of a few of the little garden figures. It was all so cute.

There's a shop on Etsy that offers engraved rocks, they show 4 different pet memorials and lots of regular one, special orders are no problem.

I'm really sorry for your losses, tkaye. I know the pain and it's hard.

We lost a kitten in 08, and we made a small memorial
garden for her. During warmer weather, I plant annuals
along the front of the flagstone.

When my sweet dog died, I planted a red twig dogwood tree over him.
If I could do it for my cat, I would plant a weeping pussy willow.

Sorry for your loss. You can make your own. I keep meaning to do this for my dogs.

When our first dog (a Westie) died, we buried her in a wooden wine box. We planted a cherry tree over her. I like to think the flowers on that tree came straight from our dear dog's heart.

We really don't have anything formal for our babies, only we really recognize their resting sites. Each has a flagstone, unmarked. But I planted a weeping pussy willow by their graves, it seemed appropriate, as does the bleeding heart.
