That's what I'm anxiously waiting for too buffetgirl, lamps and work lights just aren't convenient!! I remember how excited we were when we got a working toilet in...I used it then said, "OK we can move in now." It is funny how we can get so excited over little things. But I know when I am able to flip a switch for the lights I will be ecstatic.

You may be lucky he won't look or talk to you. The furnace guy we've had for many years has a yesteryear opinion of women: dumb, can't fix anything, doesn't know what is wrong with the furnace, get a job... Well, I wish he wouldn't talk to me while he is here!

rofl..good point cotehele. He stands there spouting off like a peacock (he and dh are sharing Iraq stories) and he likes to talk in electrical lingo - supposedly so I have no idea what he's talking about. Funny though, my dad was trained as an electrician so I know all the lingo. I just won't let on (mostly). hahaa

the fixtures in question, unbeknown to him, are only temporary ones (over kitchen table, pendants) and were all dirt cheap because we needed something to put in place today and when all is said and down dh will simply replace them. The pendants on back order, and we're waiting for over table light to see how we like pendants and then we'll match those. The Electrician guy thinks he's God and that ONLY HE can replace a light. LOL.

omg I almost just threw him out of my house!

my mom came in and she walked into the kitchen and noticed the electrician had all his stuff all over the counter (he was putting in the under cabinet lights) and said "Oh my gosh, get all this stuff off the counter" just jokingly. He says "you cabinet people are ALL alike" (assuming that she was the cabinet lady) and then he looks at me and says "cabinet people" and rolls his eyes. I said "Um, no, that's my mother"

OMG he was so freaking rude! I will totally be telling my GC about him.

Geesh! What a jerk. Wouldn't it be funny if HE did something electrical wrong and you corrected his mistake? He would just think you had a lucky guess. My furnace guy is like that; knows it all.

I swear, I'm laughing with you not at you!!! We are in the midst of a whole house build, and all of the contractors have been great but I've had my share of being talked "around" (and most of our contractors are family or friends). DH set them straight as he refers all questions to me.

Ditto jenanla! My husband just says "Don't talk to me. Talk to my wife. She makes all the decisions and pays the bills. So if you want to get paid, you should do what she says and do it right the first time. She's pretty anal and very stubborn". They typically come back with their tale between their legs and puppy dog eyes. Those who don't have to deal with my stubborn, unyeilding totally PITA side. Not fun nor pretty!

Oh totally - that's usually what my dh says too. But as soon as he's gone...forget it. But the GC told the electrician today "hey, if you have a question ask Michelle, not me"

and to top it off, they didn't even finish today so now they'll be stepping all over the plumbers tomorrow. Electric was supposed to happen yesterday, granite today, plumbing tomorrow..all nice and tidy. The electricians think they're god and just do whatever they want. now I can't even go turn the lights on to see my granite.

and I soooo want to clean it.

OOOH Redemption! I just got a call from the electrician apologizing to me for his comments today. Funny thing was that the one specific comment he mentioned on the phone wasn't even anything I heard! LOL. And my husband got a call from the project manager telling him that the electrician got a new one..and how sorry he was that the electrician was a butt!

What goes around comes around - that's what my mom says. When we were appliance shopping the salesperson was very patronizing initially but he really changed his tune when he found out I knew as much or more about his product than he did. My husband was ROFL when we left the place. He said "you just blew him out of the water! Where did you learn all that stuff?" You had to be there. LOL We did eventually buy from this guy. Got a great deal and had a very good experience.

well the electrician was ALLLLLL apologetic this morning and has offered to do a bunch of stuff for free. Last night I had a bit of a scare though. We had 2 plugs in the old space that were still functional because they had been tied into other plugs in the living room/dining room. Anyway, my GC guys had been using those plugs for their coffee maching/microwave etc. and at night I'd plug in there to use my george forman grill. Anyway, last night I went to plug in and tripped circuits. off to the basement (which I discovered was on the same circuit) so I've got my 7 yo with me holding a flashlight and I'm trying to find the circuit I tripped. I find 2 that are off and I think "hmm why are they fully off?" so I don't flip them. And then I found the one that was tripped but it wouldn't reset - so clearly something was shorting it out. When DH came home he looked and found that a wire was crossed. BUT here's the scary part. The 2 circuits that were off were for the stove. And the old stove wire was still attached to it. Hanging right where my son was standing. Uncovered. If I had flipped those 2 circuits I would have electrocuted my son.
So my dh ripped the electrician another new one this morning.

So hence the offer of fixing a lot of our old wiring in the cellar for free (I assume just cleaning up old wiring withe new) and also to give us a lot of free dimmers...(not that that's such a big deal) But at least he was professional about it and took blame.
