If I shut down my computer, how do I get rid of the e-mail? Or do I hit "Delete" before I shut down?

The one about the Olympic Torch is a hoax, per Snopes. The other one is a real virus. However, I would never send a warning to everyone in my contacts because I figure most people are like me and pay no attention to these alarms.

NEVER, EVER click on a link in an email like this. You very well might be infected now.

Just never open a message that looks odd to you or from someone that you don't recognize.

So you mean if we click on the link here that we might get infected???

Interesting. I right clicked on the link and looked at the properties. The addy it sends you to is "http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp";
It appears to be an .asp file....that is an active server page. I'm no expert, but I don't like it.
I sure ain't gonna click on it.
I think that Garden Web should pull the thread...or at least the link.

I do believe it is a link to an infected page.

As an afterthought, I went to the Snopes site and found the postcard virus info...

First of all the email you quoted alludes to the postcard virus, which is a real virus that has been around since last summer. However, the body of your email contains false and incorrect info. It is a hoax. I have linked to Snopes.com for clarification of your email. If you had read to the bottom of your link, you would have seen this info also. One should always check out these mass warnings at Snopes.
The real problem is that you included a link that was in your email. It turns out that the link is benign, but it very well could have sent people to an infected web page.
It's very common for the bad guys to do this type of thing.
I know you meant well, so please don't take this personally and please don't stop posting.
Caution is the operative word along with Snopes.com.

I did check out the link first and after making sure it was a direct link to snopes, only then did I post it. I have seen direct links to snopes in several posts, and therefore felt it ok to post it. Im sorry if my last post came across as snappy. I sincerely thought that what I was posting was legit and could be helpful to someone. In the future, I will make sure not to post things that might come across as fake or harmful. Thank you.

Just make sure that you go to Snopes directly when you check something out, cuz what they'll do sometimes is make a web page that looks exactly like the real thing....but it isn't. I was afraid that a direct link from your email was not really to Snopes. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
All's well that ends well, though. We all appreciate a head's up on the latest malware.
