Please show me your recessed can lights in your vaulted ceiling
Comments (25)fyi, the rims can be painted after installation. Charliedawg, our plugs are perfect. With the lakeview, fireplace, tv, open kitchen and arches to DR and foyer, there is really only one natural place for our sofa. I knew we wanted to put a sofa table behind it, so we left room for that and enough room to walk between table and the cedar posts at the kitchen opening. The electrician said there was no rush since the plugs were going into the main level, which is second story, so we were able to wait until house was framed to decide exactly where they were going. DH and I used empty boxes to place where the sofa and measured to make sure there was enough room behind for table. (You can see the two cans in the kitchen we didn't need :( ) Here is a link that might be useful: Great room...See Morecabinets to 9 ft ceiling? and faux butlers pantry idea?
Comments (4)Your image is a bit hard to understand. Does the fridge open up into a bottleneck/walkway? I agree with above... You might as well bring cabinets to the ceiling if it's your only way to maximize storage space in that area and you can afford it. We have 9' ceilings and cabinets all the way up... In my top cabinets, I keep: rarely used glasses, holiday themed kitchen items, serving platters for parties, extra paper cups and similar. Will you have a pantry area or not? Where will food go? It might be useful for you to sketch out where you will keep things...... That will give you an idea of how much additional space you need. The hutch/butlers pantry in adjoining area sounds nice... to increase storage, show off your china and it will likely look nice. There are lots of kitchens on here with similar if you search....See MoreShow me your kitchen ceiling fans!
Comments (6)There's no ceiling fan in our current kitchen, but we had this one in our previous house: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/52-inch-minka-aire-acero-steel-and-nickel-ceiling-fan__88506.html...See MoreShould we put 9 ft. or 10 ft. ceilings in a new Craftsman build?
Comments (100)cpartist give excellent suggestions for how to deal with 10 foot tall kitchens, keeping the ambiance Craftsman and attractive. I will note I find 9 foot tall ceilings plenty fine for me, but go with feels comfortable to you. Although I do have a cathedral ceiling in the public part of the house.... (No, my house is not Craftsman). As someone else noted, you'll have to change your door heights and other aspects of your home to go with the increase in ceiling height - and that's not going to be cheap. Even at six foot one, I don't feel cramped in homes that have 8 foot ceilings - I was just in one (probably built in the 60s or 70s) this past Sunday (after months of not being to get out and visit folk very often at all). It was fine. But 9 doesn't affect pricing as much as 10 feet would. Please don't do without upper cabinets. You'll hurt resale, as not everyone is going to want to stop everything and remodel as soon as they move in. Even though I mostly have drawers, the lowest one is always a pain to access anyway.....See Moreboxerpups
