Mine doesn't know how to put another roll of bath tissue on the dispenser.....I've even shown him, too many times to count, but he still CANNOT figure out how to open up the bathroom closet, pick up a roll of tissue and put it on the dispenser. Your right, its inborn....LOL. I don't know how he has managed to still be here after 39 years (and still be alive!!!!....LOL)

Well trailing on the bath tissue dispenser - mine sits the new roll right on top of the empty roll. I mean seriously, it is "right there". What is up with that????? Drives me NUTS.

Mine empties the trash (AND puts a new liner in!) and replaces the toilet paper... but he does not replace an empty Kleenex box.

I am sure I don't do some things right for him either....

Eric gets so irked when I pile stuff on the kitchen trash can! LOL. Neither of us bother to put the TP roll on. We don't have much comapny so we don't worry with it. What bugs me is when he leaves his spit/dip cups around the hosue. And I bug him when I leave junk in the chairs in the livingroom. Guess it balances out for us!

My husband always balances trash on the top of the kitchen wastebasket. When he was growing up, his mom and 2 sisters always cleaned up after him. It's all their fault! But he is a good cook, so I let him stay!

But, just to egg things on a bit; what is it with women and their sense of time? We need to run some errands this morning and Duckie just said she'd be ready to go in 5 minutes. Therefore I know I have at least another 20 or 25 minutes here on the computer.

Mine takes care of the trash, is happy to replace the TP, is always on time (as am I) and is generally very tidy. BUT, he's noisy! If I'm watching the news, he's wanting to give me HIS side of the issue (which I have already heard 20 times) or if I'm watching a show, he's rustling papers around or clearing his throat 100 times or doing something to drown out the TV. When he's watching or sleeping, I tippy-toe around, quiet as a mouse. Not him, no sir. Bash! Crash! He has no concept of "sssshhhhhhhhh!" And one other thing he does that makes me nuts- he puts things away while I'm cooking. Things that I just set out to use but haven't used yet. I'll be making a salad and "hey! Where'd that tomato go?" "Oh, I thought you were done with it." Tomato, salad dressing, whatever, now you see it, now you don't. Grrr! That means the fridge gets opened 4 times instead of 2. That just irks me big time. Or he'll turn off a light that I just turned on. Stop it!

I know I get on his nerves some simply because the house isn't always as clean as he would like. But it's never going to be, he should get used to it.

okay, what about actually returning the item to the INSIDE of the cupboard where it came from and not just placing it on the counter for me to pick up and place inside???
I don't sweat the small stuff but I do laugh at it sometimes. Made a response once and was told - my hands are full taking the stuff back....

well duh....the hand is now empty since you put the item down. Open the door, grab it again with your now empty hand and put it away. Then with your hand now empty again, close the door and put your dishes beside the sink - we'll work on scraping the plates and rinsing them next year so we don't stress ya out.

Well...I am the one that will balance stuff on the top of the garbage. I forget to get another bag (unless I am working right there). DH is overall better at doing things...except that it doesn't bother him to be a few minutes late. If I say we are leaving at 6:30, I want the car to be moving at 6:30. He IS much better after almost 27 years of 'training'...OKAY, bellyaching to him about it. LOL

We are just a good fit together...I think I will keep him for a bit longer! =) Not sure I could find someone else to put up with me! "/

I asked my newly-retired DH a year ago, to maybe be the one to take the trash out - any little thing he could do to help out would be immensely appreciated - and he did - took the bag of trash out of the container, tied the top, and set it beside the container. ????? Well, he DID take the trash out, but I meant out of the house! (Outside trash cans are 3 steps down to a landing, and then out the outside door, and there they are!) Now I just do it all. He will do things here and there when I ask him, but I have to ask. It IS inbred in them, I think.

My kids do this too, just dumped the garbage in the kitchen and part of it was on the floor and piled in so high the lid wouldn't go down. Kind of defeats the purpose of a lid on it.

They also never put a new roll on the toilet paper dispenser. I came home from work the other day and there was one roll on the sink, and three in a row on the shelf behind the toilet, now why can they line them all up like that but not put them in the cabinet below the sink, out of sight????

Mine is a door/drawer closer. When I'm cooking, I may have several doors/drawers open because what I need next is in them..and if he walks through the kitchen all get closed! Humph! But is a garbage piler also..and when it does get taken out, no replacement bag. I'm used to it after 20 years.

Well mine takes out the trash and recyclables,replaces the the tp,keeps the dog kibble keepers full and crushes the aluminum cans without me having to say a word.

What he can't seem to learn is how close rectangular Tupperware containers without leaving a corner undone. He is also plastic jar challenged. I have go about tightening the lids on things like peanut butter. He just gives the lid a spin without seating and tightening it. No problems with glass jars.

The other thing he does that drives me nuts is he will buy things and leave them in the bag. He doesn't unpack and put the thing(s)away, then forgets where he put the bag or even that he already bought the item he is looking for.

It's a good thing I'm good natured and my DH is a charming man or he wouldn't have lasted these 40 years! He is worse than useless because he tries to help. Like Nan's Dh, he closes all the cupboard doors while I'm cooking, and once when he was trying to be helpful, he cleaned my cast iron pan of all its seasoning! He told me a long time ago that he developed his philosophy in the Air Force - never do a job right because they'll make you do it again!

Let's see...

1- Takes out the trash, but never puts in a new liner.
2- Whenever he does a household chore such as run the vacuum, he never puts it away. The vacuum just stays there in the middle of the room.
3- When he gets his jacket out of the closet, he never closes the closet door. Never ever.
4- When he makes coffee, there are coffee grounds all over the counter top. It's never occurred to him to wipe them up!
5- This one REALLY gets me. He is absolutely incapable of opening any package without nearly destroying it. The top of a box of cereal ends up totally mangled, and a bag of chips is torn lengthwise down the entire side of the bag. I don't know how he does it.
6- He cannot put a lid on any tupperware container properly.
7- Everytime he puts something in the microwave, he asks me how long it should be in there. EVERY single time, LOL.

But he's just about perfect in every other way, so I'll keep him!!

Ron, I have to admit I am guilty of telling him I'll be ready in 5 minutes, then it turns into fifteen. Sort of like when he tells me the football game will be over in 5 minutes! So there!! LOL

Again DH and I are the opposite. I am the one that piles up the trash and he is the one that takes care of it. As I have said before, I am Oscar and he is Felix. And I like action adventure shooting car chasing movies and he likes romantic comedies. Opposites attract. Guess we were meant for each other.

It's the reverse at my house. My wife piles the garbage bag to overlowing and refuses to start another one. I'm the one who takes out the trash, puts in new wastebasket liners, changes the bath tissue rolls, changes the paper towel roll, changes and laundrys the bath towels and cloths. My wife would leave the bath towels up until they smelled of mildew! When she retired, she retired! However, I must admit, when I was fully employed and she was managing a houseful of children, she did many of the things above. Now, there has been a role reversal.

Oh, I almost forgot. Her ankles bothers her making it painful for her to walk. This has been a factor in role reversal.

This thread could go on for a very long time...... LOL. shea reminded me of another, "duh" moment. DH can't seem to get sugar into the coffee cup without leaving sugar all over the counter. Doesn't faze him in the least! Has never wiped it up.
I promise, I don't go looking for things to complain about, they're right there in front of me! LOL.
I know how "bachelor pads", can be. That's how our house would look if he was left alone. (I'm glad he's somewhat , normal.)

Mine has a soda with lunch and every time leaves the half empty soda can on the table. I move it to the counter(because he might want the rest of it) and at the moment I have a collection of about 5 half empty cans of soda - I foolishly thought he might recognize them and do something. He does several of the other things mentioned above also - I think it's genetic

DH and I are both bad about garbage piling but he will usually take it out. I finally have gotten him to rinse and put his own dishes into the dishwasher. But what really gets to me is that he will NEVER close boxes of crackers, cereal, cookies or the bread. Once I picked up the bread without noticing it hadn't been closed and it all spilled out on the floor. Also he puts back those open boxes when they are empty. Why not just throw them away??

... if we were to prove ourselves capable of doing all of these things after just one or two periods of instructions ...

... soon we'd be looking after the whole house.

Much simpler to just wander through life, following the same old track.

It does seem to me that it would be a little more diplomatic were we to commisserate with you a little motre oftern, relative to your problems in life.

Not with a view to advising as to how to fix it, we have come to a nub of understanding that such is minimally appreciated ... just expressing concern and leaving it lie there?

Ok, late to the party, My DH won't take the trash out unless I start to, or will tie the bag off in the can and leave it, & finally NEVER puts a new bag in.

That said, I know that the little things he does that drive me crazy are a lot like things I probably do and don't realize.
It annoys me when he does it, but it's OK when I do it...

WOW. My DH is sounding better and better the more I read this thread! He does most of the housework. Does the laundry, takes out the trash, cooks, vacuums, mops and that was just what he did today. I have trouble getting him to dust and clean the bathrooms and he has a bad habit of piling everything he doesn't know what to do with in the dining room. I can live with those things. Hey, he even puts the toilet seat down. I know I'm going to keep him.

My DH is pretty good about most stuff-he's the cleaner one of the two of us...

BUT, like shea reminded me-Our boxes/packages get torn apart. Even those newer zipper packages, are usually ripped below the line, making the zipper part useless!!! I swear he must look like the Incredible Hulk when opening chips!!

And my worst pet peeve about him-he doesn't look! He opens the fridge or cabinet and one millisecond later asks me where something is (normally right in front of him!!) I keep telling him to look for 5 seconds and I'm sure he could find it!

He also leaves those yucky bread crumbs in my butter-EWWWW

But other then that he's perfect-lol
