Jenni...she thought "you" had a "fringe" on your bag you made..I was just trying to explain to her what it was. I love these "rag" quilts and bags. My daughter who does not sew....is attempting to make one...She is doing okay on it. I found her a real nice older (metal) singer maching with several different stitches...at a yard sale for $10.00 in a cabnet. She's having fun with it. She was wanting a maching to do stitches on her scrapbooking things. patti

Do I hear that darned Cynic using my name in vain? Again? Rag bag - yep. But - there ain't much in it. I'm having trouble choosing some underwear briefs that are not holey and only minimally stained, but the zip in whose elastic has pretty well got up and went ... to trade to my son and his lady for new ones that they gifted me ... ... (last Christmas). Old things make good dusters ... and are useful for cleaning up spills. Wrapping around the broom, held in place by elastic bands, even synthetic material does a good job of clearing cobwebs. I find that the synthetic fibre things make reasonably good dishcloths, not being required to soak up a lot of water. I have a set of old coveralls, with hole in one leg (patched), and hole in other lag having had the seam ripped, ready to patch, but not yet patched ... that has a zipper whose slider(s) run up and down nicely, but the two sides won't stay together - I need a couple of cloths tied together to tie around my middle to turn the wind a bit. Have some holey socks that need mending ... but they aren't ready for the rag bag ... yet. Have some cotton socks that I need to darn (or patch) as I wear them over the squeezy socks (about $60. for 2 pairs) to keep them from wearing out quickly. Someone says that the socks wear mostly on the skin side ... but I figure that most of the wear takes place on the shoe side. Hope you're all having a great week ... my friend was entertaining on the weekend at the last fall fair of the season, so we're having Thanksgiving supper tonight. ole joyful

Gillian, I have been washing my fabrics because the cotton duck canvas I've been purchasing for my bags say "dry clean only". No way!!! So I wash it in warm water first to make sure it does it's shrinking/fading...whatever it's going to do so it doesn't get all wonky if I wash it later. I made a dress many years ago with rayon dry clean only fabric & thought hey...I can wash this in cold, right? Nope. The blue bled all over the pink. This was AFTER I had finished my dress. Wish I had prewashed that fabric.

With the iron on transfers, you can simply put the design on the printer to copy and use the transfer as the paper you print the copy onto, testing on regular paper first and making sure you put the paper in the right way (most are loaded with the back of the paper facing up). If you have the ability to scan, you can use any number of online services or even take the image as a data file (SD card, flash drive or even on your phone) and get them printed. We ordered a bunch or graduation gifts from Costco's photo services one year and I have used York Photo for other gifts (your art scan is a digital image file like a photo). York has alway had a fast turn around for me. If you have a couple of weeks, I think you do have time for some of the services. You upload the image and create the project -- they just print and ship, York usually shipped within a day or two. Office and copy services like Fedex or Office Depot may be able to do the scan for you as well. Test your freezer paper with a quick doodle or two and make sure you are happy with the results while you still have time to investigate other options if not. Sounds like something I have heard of before but not tried. Hope this turns out well for everyone. Sounds like a very thoughtful and special gift.
