Any Clean Sweep fans here still?

I really like this show I stopped watching it for a while but over Christmas vacation I figured out the schedule again and been catching the reruns in the afternoons.

Watched a new episode last night.

Peter is great!! He really analyzes *why* the people need to keep the stuff and "opens" their eyes and then help them understand that decluttering will help sooo much.

I wanted so much to do this to a room in my house over Christmas vacation but we got ice and snow so I couldn't.I like the idea of taking everything out of the room and deciding outside what to keep and what to toss. Then everything that goes back in the room is what you really love. I may have to do that at 4th of July vaction!

Last night I had insomnia and watched a show on HGTV called "Designed to Sell" and a real estate expert came in and told a couple what to do to get more money for their house when they put it on the market and 90% of what she said basically was declutter and make it more presentable!!

Anyone else like Clean Sweep or (gasp!)not?LOL

I watch both of these shows. There is another one on BBC Channel called The Life Laundry that is good too. I have to catch it really early in the morning most of the time..............................Carolyn

Those are two of my favorite shows! And I can't believe the stuff people have and how long they live like that. It would have driven me crazy!

I like Designed to Sell better than Sell this House. The latter, well, I'd die if they did some of that, but the budget is small. But I tape Designed to Sell.

I love my Guadalupe growing in hot, hot, hot Kansas Zone 6. Let me assure you that it is one tough rose--hardly notices the heat (over 100 for the past month) while most of my roses packed up and went to Alaska for the rest of the summer. Guadalupe just keeps on pumping out the blooms. Amazing rose! My winters aren't as cold as yours, but she has had no problem surviving my Zone 6 winters. How much colder, I don't know. I don't remember Guadalupe having any blackspot problems. I sprayed some of my more susceptible roses a couple times last spring--just don't remember if she was included, but I think not since I usually make a special note of any roses that have BS problems--so I can restrict my occasional sprayings to just the roses with actual BS problems. Since I don't remember her being included in that group, I'm assuming she had no problems with BS. (By the way, since June, I have sprayed nothing. Even BS can't survive the HEAT we've had almost all summer.) Guadalupe is a pretty, smaller, floriferous, disease-resistant rose. Everyone should get one! Kate

I have a camera that takes video. Wouldn't have done me any good. I don't know how to use it. What's worse I left the camera at home this trip. I was kicking myself because When I got out of the truck Sunday I could hear the Pileated feeding. I have watched these birds at least three times without spooking them. I want some pics. I guess I could add that instead of the birds crashing into the branches they over flew them and triple struck them with their wing.I think this sound is what first brought my attention to the unusually noisy robins. I did notice this and remarked to myself that they knew enough to do it that way to remain in control of flight. The video camera probably wouldn't have pulled it off becuase of the panorama of the event took place as far as you could see to the left and as far as you could see to the right. It went on for long enough for me to decide to head around and enter the walk in basement to get the binoculars because I figured out that there were many birds in on this and I wanted to get a look at some "firsts". Too bad I hadn't a clue what I was looking at. I want to say I saw Vireo type birds as well. As far as reporting the incident I would bet Cornell U has some kind of hotline.Wish I knew who to "shout out" to. I figured here at the forum would be a great start. I think at this point I think the dates are a good thing to hold on to. And for sure I'll be watching for this again next year. One more thing.. This south facing hill in Central Maine is covered with more robins than I have ever witnessed anywhere else till the slugs start to dry up. Thanks for listening!

When I did my kitchen I took 2 days. I removed everything from 1/2 the room & took it outside. I scrubbed the cabinets inside and out, then replaced what I was keeping. The next work day I removed everything from the other 1/2 the room and scrubbed. I had help from my friend. We even scrubbed the walls and ceiling. Both days were sunny and nice and we just put stuff in boxes and set the boxes on a tarp in the back yard. My youngest son and I did his room last week. We took apart & removed the bed. We just propped it up in the hall while we worked. We moved the other furniture to the middle of the room while we scrubbed and dusted. We took everything out of drawers & off shelves and put it all in boxes and laundry baskets. He sorted the clothes and put them back in the dresser. We sorted the books together & put them back in the bookcase. His floor is wood so I scrubbed around the outside while the furniture was moved in, then scrubbed the middle when we moved the furniture back. The last thing we did was put the bed back. Getting the bed out of the room gave us all the room we needed to work. There is no way we could have done it wiht the bed still set up. When I did my room, there was enough room to leave the bed set up and and just push the rest of the furniture up against it. Now, on to my other 2 sons' rooms! They are disasters! The only way to make this idea work is to commit to an entire day, dawn to dusk. You can't start moving things out and let them sit for days. Ask a really good friend to help, or even pay someone you know to help. Having two people makes the world of difference. My friend is a really hard worker, too, so she kept me on task. She wouldn't sit down even for a minute! I didn't do any painting in the process, just cleaning. I'm going to go back and do painting later in the winter.

There are some great tips and thoughts here. I've been dealing with the same problem here and have found Freecycle and Freshare groups to be wonderful ... it's so much easier for us to "let go" of things when we know people truly want/need them. It takes a little longer, but I find family members much more willing to Freecycle something than to dump it in a collection bin. As for the "Clean Sweep" concept, I used this with my twin sons when they were about 10 years old. First we visited Ikea, where they could get a look at different room scenarios and tell me just what they liked and why - colors, styles, everything. We bought shelves, armoires, curtains, chair, pillows, bedding, carpet, floor lamp, magnetic whiteboards and some accessories for storage and decoration, then some paint. Emptied the room, painted walls and trim hung the curtains and replaced the furniture. Then came the crucial part: putting back *only* those things they truly wanted to keep *and* had a place for. They really appreciated how much larger the space felt when empty, and felt the difference as it began to fill up, first with furniture, then with their belongings ... interestingly, I didn't have to tell them when to stop, they decided that on their own. It's seven years later, now, and it gets pretty awful in there sometimes, but mostly from just flinging clothes and stuff about out of carelessness, then they'll go on a binge and clean it all up. If they can do it, ladies ... so can we! :-)

I'm a HUGE fan of that show! I wish they traveled the country like Trading Spaces - I have a brother and SIL that could REALLY use their services - LOL!

I like the fact that they help people analyze why they are hanging on to things. But I get so frustrated when people want to hang onto things. I also wonder how on earth people live in the filth you see on some of those episodes!

I'm not 100% crazy over their garage sale process - especially that contest they do where they pit the hubby and wife against each other - I think that's pretty unnecessary.

I love both shows.However I'm especially fond of the show that gives owners suggestions on how to sell their house.
It amazes me to see these people try to sell a house full of junk and in disrepair.They sometimes look shocked when told why their house isn't selling.'Hello! are they really that dumb,or is it exagerated for TV?

I love Clean Sweep. It's programmed to record on our Tivo. I especially like the way Peter helps people analyze why they're holding on to stuff & gets them to let go of things. I try to keep that in mind when I'm decluttering.

Add me to the list of Clean-Sweep fans. I would love to go in and help people de-clutter. To me,it's common sense to have a place that is efficient, where things can easily be found, etc. I work at a place where the female boss is a total pack-rat. Has NEVER thrown ANYTHING away. There are pathways through which we have to walk. It feels physically, let alone mentally, depressing. But, she's the BOSS. We grumble and go on. Wish we could get Clean-Sweep to visit! Thanks for listening.
